“Run by crooks”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 June 2011

I stayed here with a colleague in June 2010. She arrived a few days before me and checked in successfully, so I did not think I would have any problems. I was mistaken. When I arrived, the manager stated that he had no record of my colleague. This is after I got a bilingual guest, who happened to be in the room to translate for me, AND wrote down the name of my colleague. I'm going to give the manager the benefit of the doubt that he is not incompetent. I think that totally understood me and was trying to extort addition money out of me. He conveniently called another hotel and got a room for me for an additional 70 euros, which I decided to pay because I could not get in contact with my colleague and it was already late in the evening. I suspect that the manager has some sort of racket going on to prey upon tourists. The following day, I got in contact with my colleague and was finally able to check in...with a different manager on duty. Interestingly, a few nights later, I was in the lobby when I overheard a quarrel between yet another manager and an American couple, who had booked a room. Apparently, someone at the Hotel tried to contact the couple while they were in transit to confirm their reservation. But because they did not respond (remember, they were in transit), the Hotel CANCELLED their reservation. Without apologizing, the manager tried to set them up at another hotel. But unlike me, the couple threatened to report the management to the police and left immediately. Stay clear of this place because it is run by crooks!

“Budget hotel for budget travelers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2010

We stayed there only for one night during our trip to Paris in April 2010 because we had a last minute change on our plan, and our reserved hotel was full that day. It was a real basic accommodation. Both the room & bathroom were big enough, but dark and not so clean. It was OK for only one night. If you plan to stay more, make sure that you don't have any expectations. It is comparable with a private room in a youth hostel. I would rate this hotel 1 star if it was in the US. The location on another hand was not bad, it was on a quiet street, very close to subway, easy to get around. Also walkable to Rue Mouffetard which is one of Paris's oldest and liveliest neighborhoods, with many restaurants, cafes and shops.

“Get what you pay for, its ok”

The location was ok, your best going out of the hotel turning right then right again and keep walking as then you reach a nicer location, the rooms were very very basic, the bathroom was big but the paint was falling off the ceiling but it was better than I had expected after reading some reviews. Its very basic but it was what we expected for the price we paid and the location wasnt bad. If your not fussy then this place is ok for you but if you are then I wouldnt recommend it for you.

“Would have preferred to sleep on the street!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2010

On my 2nd trip to Paris, I booked the Hotel Media before I'd read the reviews on Trip Advisor. Obviously once I read the reviews I was horrified but at that point, every other hotel in my price range was fully booked and there are no refunds so I decided to be brave and give it a try. As a solo-traveller I've stayed in hostels and hotels of varying classes so I hoped that maybe it wouldn't be as bad as everyone had said. However, just to be careful I brought my own sheet with me... thank goodness!

The room was dreadful. Seriously, the WORST room I have ever had the misfortune of sleeping in. For any Americans reading this, it makes Motel 6 look like a 5* hotel. The room is very small with holes and stains in the carpet and the room in general is in a state of disrepair. The furniture looked like something out of a crack house. No exaggeration. I pulled back the sheets on the bed and to my horror discovered a USED BANDAID and what appeared to be pubic hairs. I stripped the bed down to the fitted sheet (tried to take that off too but the mattress underneath was so stained that I couldn't bear to leave it uncovered) and used my sheet to sort of sleep in a cocoon.

In the morning when I was ready for a shower, I stepped on the bathroom floor and found it sticky *shudder*. The toilet was stained as was the tub. It was so bad that I just washed up and left as quickly as I could. Unfortunately the nightmare did not end there. I went downstairs to check out and the man at the check in desk (younger than the same man who does the evening check in) kept staring at me while I checked my email. It was extremely creepy and uncomfortable. He asked me what I was doing in Paris and when I told him that I was sightseeing for the day he told me that I should let him take me on his motorcycle and when I politely declined he insisted and then became angry when I repeatedly said no thank you. At this point he just stared at me and honestly as a young woman in a foreign city on my own, I felt extremely uncomfortable. Keep in mind that I have travelled alone many times and am not naive... one thing any female backpacker knows is that she has to keep her guard up when out of her comfort zone and this is the first time that I felt genuinely uncomfortable and somewhat afraid.

This hotel is just terrible. The previous hotel I stayed at was the Hotel Lorette Opera. It's clean, friendly, nicely decorated and close to the Moulin Rouge. Also when I visited there when I was 21 the man at the check in desk was kind of enough to call my room each night to make sure that I'd made it back safely since it was my first time in Paris. Hotel Media could learn a lot from Hotel Lorette Opera. Places like Hotel Media give Paris, an otherwise amazing and beautiful city, a very bad name!!

Save your money! Go somewhere else!

“Awful place avoid.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 June 2010

This place was really grim. looked more like a hostel with people permentaly living there bikes in hallways, the only access to rooms was a horrible little lift. no fire escapes at all! our first room was in the roof boiling hot had a double bed up a little ladder into the roof couldnt stand up, had a single bed on the bottom floor not even asked for! Asked for a room change had to really argue in broken french no english speaking staff. second room much better but got bitten in our bed. really horrible experience of hotel and bad value for money. Paris extremely expensive take a lot of money!
