I stayed two nights and got two different rooms on the top floor. The first room had an immense and lovely bathroom and big windows overlooking the street. Okay you're not overlooking the Eiffel Tower but I love just looking out into the streets of Paris. The location is fantastic, close to the Gare de l'Est and the Gare du Nord which has a direct train to Charles de Gaulle airport. Turned out to be a very good thing because the receptionist convinced me to order the shuttle which then proceeded to not arrive. He was supposed to be there at 9:45 but called at ten to 10 to say he'd be "ten minutes late." At five past 10 he called again to say he'd be another 15 minutes late. You could tell he was probably still in bed, it was so obvious. So at that point I demanded my 8 euro booking fee back and made a run for the Gare du Nord which is what I should have done in the first place. This was obviously not the hotel's fault and in fact the receptionist was very nice and very quick to understand the urgency of the situation and hand over my 8 euro without any hemming and hawing about it and she apologized multiple times even though it was totally not her fault. The 8 euro in coins actually saved me because I could buy my ticket at a machine without waiting seven hours in line at the ticket office. (The price was 9,10 but I had a few euro in coins already). The only big downside to this hotel was the noise from adjoining rooms. If you are a light sleeper and you want to actually get a good night's sleep you would be better off at the Mercure Gare de Lyon which is super-duper and soundproofed but about twice the cost too. The staff, as per usual at the Mercure chain, were incredibly professional and helpful. Oh btw breakfast is 17 euro or something like that, I never ever get the hotel breakfast in Europe because I don't feel like paying 30 USD for a few slices of ham and a truly lousy cup of coffee but every time I stay at a Mercure I see dismayed people standing at the reception arguing about the price of the breakfast they rashly consumed without checking the price first. Never assume that breakfast is included. Always ask. Oh one more thing, the a/c was on the blink but they did provide me with a fan. Luckily the weather was just turning autumnal so I didn't die but if it had happened in August it would have been a tragedy.
Room Tip: Definitely get a top floor room if you can. Call ahead to make sure the a/c is working BEFORE you bo...
