“Amazing, Cheap and Comfy!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Myself and my Boyfriend stayed here Oct 2011, and it was a wonderful experience. It was out of the citycentre, and in an area that we would never normally have visited - and that was possibly the best part of this hotel. It meant that we saw a non-touristy part of Paris, and it was lovely.

The rooms were small, but very manageable and (most importantly) the bed was comfy!! The room had a lovely window and it opened completely, which is nice, as hotels in the UK tend to have locks to stop the windows opening more then an inch!

The rooms were cleaned every day and new towels were put out. The en-suite was small, i.e. you can sit on the toilet, reach the shower and brush your teeth all at the same time!! But it had hot water and was very clean. We arrived a couple of hours early and were allowed into the room there and then. At the end of the trip, our Eurostar train wasnt until the evening, and the guy on reception was more than happy to watch our luggage until we returned later that day.

All in all, I would reccommend this hotel, if you just want a nice, comfy place to stay and use as a base for your Paris exploring, then this is perfect! It is very reasonably priced, and lets you see an area of Paris that is not tourist mad! When we go back to Paris, I am sure that we will use this hotel again.

Also, the bakery just down the road has the most delicious food ever!!! :)

“Very basic but clean, and off the tourist track”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

I stayed here for one night while visiting family who live just down the road from the hotel. All I needed was a clean room and bed to sleep in, I got no more and no less. My room was on the second floor, advertised as a double but the bed would be very tight if there were two people sleeping in it.

Good points: The room was recently decorated, perfectly clean, quiet, all the lights worked, nothing was broken. Hot water came immediately and was very hot. The bed was OK. The area is off the beaten track, very typically Parisian and will appeal to people who like real local flavour rather than local flavour made for tourists. The nearest metro station (Jourdain) is about five minutes' walk. There is no breakfast but who would want a 1-star hotel breakfast anyway, when there are bakeries and cafes close at hand?

Bad points: Some minor gripes - the bathroom was ridiculously small, impossible to wash, shave or shower without banging into things. The plug in the sink wouldn't close and the shower head wouldn't stay put, but I have seen this in four-star hotels as well so cannot really complain. The walls between rooms are very thin, luckily I had very quiet neighbours - I heard them coming in, banging into things in the bathroom then nothing else.

Two major gripes. Firstly, it was unbearably hot in the room and impossible to turn down the heating. Consequently, I slept with the window wide open despite it being freezing outside. No doubt many others do the same, which makes no sense in terms of energy wastage and heating bills for the hotel. Luckily my room was out the back and so noise from the street was not an issue. And secondly, as in so many small Paris hotels, what happens if there is a fire? The only way out is apparently the main staircase which is steep, spiral and narrow.

All in all, if your purpose is what mine was - a cheap bed for a night or two specifically in this part of Paris and nothing more, then this hotel fits the bill perfectly.

“Good and reasonably clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

We spent 2 nights in this hotel. The double room is of a good size, with a double wardrobe and quite a lot of space on the floor, that we could place an inflatable bed for our child to sleep on.
The bathroom was quite clean (could have been a bit better) but ridiculously small...in order to be able to dry yourself up after the shower, you needed to open the bathroom door...:-)

All in all, very good value for price, and in a very good location.

Room Tip: Room 5 on second floor was the one we were allocated and was good.

“Crazy small bathroom, but clean, and in a decent location.”

My girlfriend and I stayed here in October 2010. We thought the room was fine if you are looking for super basic accommodations to drop your stuff and see the city. I couldn't tell if the staff were a little indifferent/rude or if they just didn't have that much English. All in all, it was fine.

It wasn't really a bad memory or a good memory, just a place to stay in Paris. It is in a safe location that is more "local" feeling. The subway is really close and it is easy to figure out. You can be at all the major Paris sights in like 10 minutes.

It definitely isn't a like impressive relaxing hotel, but if you just want to see Paris and don't want to stay in a hostel, this is a really good option. It is clean and basic.

“Quaint little hotel that does the trick for a night - but don't expect anything fancy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2009

I stayed at the Hotel Ermitage for two nights in July 2008 on my first ever trip to Paris. I am a young female and was traveling on my own, so had booked the hotel for the purposes of having my own little space whilst I acquainted myself with the city.

PRICE: I booked through hostelbookers and paid 38 Euros/night for a private single with shared bathroom. For me this worked out to roughly AUD$75/night, so it was quite pricey even for a budget hotel. I have since heard that even though it is Paris, it is possible to get a budget hotel with a private bathroom for that price or less - however I did not come across any.

LOCATION: Hotel is located in the 20th androissement (district), so is not all that close to the city centre (however I caught the metro to most sights in around 10-20mins, depending on where I was headed). The neighbourhood itself was fairly quiet, but my gut feeling was that it was pretty safe, and I had no troubles wandering by myself in the evenings. There some decent and reasonably-priced restaurants in the area (you just need to be prepared to walk around to find them) and also a few markets selling fresh fruit.

ROOMS: My room was on the seventh floor (and there is no elevator), so I certainly got my exercise running up and down! And I should probably mention here the view. This is probably what pushed this hotel from a "Poor" to an "Average" for me - the view from my room and the seventh floor was just gorgeous. I could see out over the rooftops and the unmistakable silhouette of the Eiffel Tower was clearly visible. Tres romantique! Rooms are a little cramped, but as there was only me (and I am not that big anyway) I was happy here for the two nights. There was a table and chair in one corner, as well as a basin and sink in another. The room also had a safe, TV and telephone. The bed was small but comfortable. My only complaint would be the cleanliness - I have a feeling I might have been bitten by bed bugs whilst staying there (I had tiny, red itchy bites all over my back and shoulders). I am not a fussy person, and the itchiness died down after a few days, but if you have allergies I would steer clear of the Hotel Ermitage (at least until they give the linen a good wash!) The bathroom was shared, and was on my floor just steps from my room. Shower worked well, tiles were a little old, but as I saw nobody else throughout my stay (and thus did not have to share), I cannot complain.

AMENITIES: None to speak of; if there was internet I did not know about it, and the hotel is very basic, so I doubt there are many included perks. At the end of the day it is a budget hotel/hostel, but it does not pretend to be otherwise, so if you are ok to look elsewhere for internet and food, Hotel Ermitage is fine.

SERVICE: I did not have many interactions with staff (nor did I see many). The man at check-in was very sweet and carried my luggage up the seven flights of stairs for me. Upon check-out he carried it back down again. Apart from that I was left to my own devices, which suited me just fine.

In all honesty, I probably would not stay here again. After my two nights here I moved on to St Christopher's Inn (located by the Canal St-Martin in the 19th androissement), and although I was in a shared dormitory, it was cleaner and nicer. Still, I do not regret those first two nights at the Hotel Ermitage. There is something very Parisienne about buying a baguette et fromage and a bottle of wine...and heading up to your tiny room to watch the sun set over the city.
