Booked five nights at Hotel des Archives for May 2010. The place is severely overdue for renovation. Water damage was apparent everywhere in our room, which smelled of mildew. Rooms are cramped even by Paris standards with literally no space to unpack - there were maybe 6 inches of hanging space in ours, a couple tiny shelves, and nowhere even to put our suitcases, which were carry-on sized, except on the nightstands. The neighborhood is fantastic if you want to be among Parisians, but after 2 nights, I realized that putting up with the stench and the grime at Hotel des Archives was ruining our stay in Paris. They were very nice about letting us leave early - no penalty - and I'm so glad we did. We got a corner room at a four star hotel by the Louvre for the same price we were paying Hotel des Archives.

Upon entering the hotel you will be greeted by a very friendly and proficient English speaking staff who remain hospitable and helpful throughout the stay. The hotel is located in central Paris in a very hip and trendy neighborhood surrounded by cafes, shops, tasty bakeries, a post office and is in walking distance from the museum of modern art.

The hotel is clean for the most part, although, there was a very questionable white stain on the cover cloth at the foot of the bed. The room was very small, barely any walking space, however, If you don't mind living in tight quarters for a few nights, this hotel will be fine. Not recommended for families with active children.

The price is fair for what you get.

My husband and I were looking for comfort in a nice area and that's what we got. It wasn't too "budgety", but just right for us. Hotel rooms in Paris are generally small anyway, but we were upgraded to a family room which had an extra living room so it was perfect. Staff are very friendly and the area is perfect if you just want to leave your hotel and ramble the streets of Paris. We booked through lastminute.com and got it for much cheaper!

Its a great hotel for the budget concious. After reading about it here on TA, I decided to give it a try just for one night. I was impressed by the attitude of the staff (very accomodating and forthcoming with information about the room and nearby attractions).

Upon entering my room I felt it was very small (and I'm not that tall).. I barely had room to open my luggage. However, I must say It was very clean, very modern and the bathroom was the same. And as expected the shower stall is also tiny.. you need to move around carefully less you bump the shower handle and accidentally increase the temperature of the water to HOT (yes, it happened). My room smelled of smoke but that didnt bother me.

But the queen beds (classique room), was extremely comfortable. The bed was firm and the sheets were soft and clean.

A great plus is FREE WiFI for anything you have (Laptop/iPhone). They will give you a printout of the username and password for each device you intend to use to surf the web.

Location wise, it can be a bit of a walk to the nearest Metro (6-8 city blocks). It was cold and raining so it felt like more. On a sunny day it can be a nice stroll.

It was a good choice and for the price (95 Euros) it was hard to beat.
