We went for our honeymoon. We'd originally booked the Campanile but I wouldn't have put my dog in there so we left and got a taxi further into Saint-Denis and walked in off the street to the Grand Hotel. He said he had a room on the 4th floor and it would be 54euro for the night. We took it coz there seemed to be loads going on out and about and it was close to the underground.
It certainly wasn't grand, dirty carpets, very, very noisy as it was on the main street and a shared loo down the hall. Bloke on reception was friendly enough.
No breakfast facilities or tea and coffee. Just a dirty room.

This hotel is far from grand!

Washroom was incredibly small. Heard everything our neighbours were doing. Heard LOTS of noice from the street below (and we were on the top floor).
Bed and pillows were not comfortable. But for the price we paid, can't complain (

I stayed there with my friend for 5 nights. I had no bookings, just walked in to the hotel. we were given the room on the 5th floor, it has dirty carpets, only shared toilet on the lobby, but the bed and bed sheets looked clean enough. but that's what I expected from a room for 42euros per 2 persons. we just wanted to have a room just for us, and this was even cheaper than some of the hostels where you share the room even with strangers. next day we upgraded our room to better one on the 2nd for 52euros. it has no carpets, so less dust, but the shower was mouldy, so we took shower only in flip-flops. The room was big enough and had small walk-in wardrobe. It has very good location, it's very near to metro and it's a safe area. we didn't feel unsafe walking there around 11 in the evening. Generally we were dirty, but satisfied :)))

We stayed just one night before catching the train in the morning and that is why we picked this hotel. Five mins walk from Guard du Nord, if that. The gents on the desk were just about polite, our room was ready early when we arrived and checked in. The room had a strong smell of air freshener and was seriously tired looking but the beds and bathroom were clean. Phew. The shower was hot and the towels were clean if a bit warn out.
They did make the mistake of charging us twice for the room, but realized and refunded the money to us in cash, so it was ok really. No breakfast available here but good value cafe's on the way to the station do a set menu. We had a beautiful time in Paris and a good nights sleep. Wouldn't like to stay there as a lone woman though.
