“Not too bad, really”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

This isn't your place if you're looking for a modern hotel. Reception has probably been the same for last 15 years, and staircases and corridors were shady. Only one person + one bag could fit into elevator at a time. Definitely has a Parisian charm ;-)

Room was sympa with quite a lot of space for one person (I was expecting a tiny room with the price I paid), table & chairs, tv, wardrobe and washbasin. Bed wasn't too comfortable, but the blankets were clean and warm. Room was warm, clean and lovely pink & purple. I really liked my room a lot.

Shared shower was surprisingly small, and walls hadn't been washed in some time - there was a LOT of mold on upper walls and ceiling. I don't know how the lock on the shower door was supposed to work, but it was quite easy to "lock" it by tieing the doorknob with long-sleeved shirt....

Shared toilet was ok, if you didn't put the lights on. There was dirt on the walls, but otherwise it was clean enough. It was rather small, but by no means tiny.

------

TL;DR : A bit like living in a dorm. Only for someone who's not too afraid of little mold and dirt for few days. Perfect for not-too-fancy-but-very-parisien -trip. Near metroes; not too scary to walk back to hotel on the evening.

“Not as bad as people are making out”

I went to Paris for the first time in Feb 2011. The hotel is very basic but that is to be expected based on the price. I took the Eurostar into Paris so this hotel was conveniently located. I booked this hotel in advance on expedia and was very worried about how I would find it without being able to speak any French but when I got out of Gare du Nord I took a few random turns and stumbled upon my hotel quite easily. Literally a couple of minutes walk from Nord. I liked my room; while not luxurious, it was spacious and clean, and served its purpose. My room overlooked Blvd Magenta, which I liked because I enjoyed watching the people go about their daily routines below.
As for the area, I was surprised that the denizens of Paris thought it fit to use Gare du nord as the hub for international trains; the train station itself is has nothing on King's Cross to put it politely; but with a bit of common sense the area around Nord is nothing to be worried about.

“Big mistake”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We changed to this hotel after staying at another hotel as room with ensuite bath is available here....big mistake, we should've just remained at the first hotel instead.

The triple room we had was small, and the ensuite bathroom is tiny and unclean. We asked for a kettle to make drinks, and we got was a small container of water not even 2 mug-fuls. The guy at the reception promised he will get a taxi for us as we had an early morning flight to catch, but the next morning he was nowhere to be found, the door was locked and we had to bang the door to get it opened. When he finally woke up, it was no surprise that there's no taxi waiting for us and he simply told us to run to the train station.

We would never recommend this place to anybody :(

(we actually went way back in 2005, and from more current reviews it's obvious they have not changed)

“Average hotel”

This is my last choice because all others are fully booked on the date I arrived. Had stayed in this hotel for about 5 days.

The hotel is about 8 to 10 min away from the Gare du Nord station. The surrounding area looks dodgy at night and nearby street doesn't look too safe after dark.

First impression, the grand hotel doesn't look too grand. The lift can only fit two person with medium suitcase. The room and the attached bathroom are big and spacious although the decor and furniture looks quite dated.

The hotel don't provide hair dryer, its only upon request and you have to return it after use. There is no coffee making facilities in the room as well. You will have to make the trip down to the pantry to make your own coffee. If that's too troublesome you can opt for the coffee vending machine.

If you plan to stay in this hotel, be prepared to face the noisy atmosphere all night long, because the hotel is located right in front of a bus stop and there are sirens going on the whole night. I had to leave the window open because there was no fan and the weather was quite warm.

Well, on the plus side one of the concierge that is on duty during the day is friendly and can speak English. Whenever we need to ask for direction he is ever helpful. The concierge for night duty is not too friendly and can be quite rude sometimes.

Overall, the room cleaning services depends on which cleaner you get. There is one which is efficient and clean, while the other does a rather sloppy job. Don't think I will stay there again.

“Cheap stay for family! Needs serious updating and CLEANING”

Have been to Paris many times normally stay champs d'lysse quarter fancied a change! ( never again) brought two teens with us so booked quad room must admit very spacious and light...... Noisy due to location near hospitals and ill fitting windows. Ok place to crash at end of busy day close to city links ( metro etc) but could really do with a good steam clean ..... Think tacky Blackpool .... Double it .... Your half way there.
