We found that the Villa Des Artistes was very suitable for our purpose. We wanted to see Paris by day and have a comfortable room to sleep in. Agreed that the rooms are not big, but it had airconditioning a big enough bathroom and it was fairly quiet.
All in all, we were pleased about the hotel. It was clean, staff was friendly and most importantly the hotel is situated nicely in the lovely Montparnasse area.
Some reviews here on this site, say that you can walk everywhere. We're sure that you can, but we didn't. The metro is just around the corner and it will take you everywhere you want to go, in Paris.
As for breakfast, we didn't spend our money on the Hotel's service. We just walked out the door and got a croissant, fruit and coffee in one of the many cafés on Boulevard du Montparnasse. The closer you get towards the Tour de Montparnasse the more cafés and restaurants you will find. Also be aware that the restaurants on the Boulevard du Montparnasse tend to be slightly more expensive than the ones on the side roads.

Just got back from spending 4 nights here with my 11-year old daughter. We had a tiny room, but big enough, just recently decorated I expect, and lovely. And a bathtub! What a luxury! We thoroughly enjoyed the stay - the staff was extremely helpful. We didn't buy the breakfast - trop cher! But the location is steps away from bakeries, cafes, a small market, so it's better to go out and experience Paris. Close to Metro - convenient RER ride from CDG. Only downside was that you really do have to take the Metro to most places we wanted to see - Louvre, Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower, etc. But the neighborhood is lovely and very Parisian - and there was even a laundromat a block away! And the place is not terribly expensive. A real gem. Give them a try!

I chose this hotel mainly because it was close to where our son was staying in Paris, but I would go back there again just because we had such a nice experience. The hotel was clean and very charming. Our room was small (typical for Paris), but everything was fresh, clean and in good working order. We had room on the 5th floor and there was no noise at all during the night - not from the street or within the hotel. There is an outdoor courtyard where we enjoyed our morning coffee, it was a very relaxing start to each day. The front desk personnel were friendly, helpful and all spoke excellent English. The area this hotel is located in is exciting and vibrant, and there are many excellent cafes there - Chez Clement and La Rotonde are now favorites of ours. After long days of sightseeing, it was wonderful to be able to relax and watch Paris roll by until the wee hours of the morning and then have a very short walk back to our room. The Vavin metro station is also very close by. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Paris and trying to stay within a budget.
