“nothing to recommend except the location”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

A very loud round of applause for the website designers and the photographs, who certainly manage to give this dreadful place a nice and charming look online!

Seriously, and not being picky, there's nothing I could recommend in this hotel, except maybe its location, since it is conveniently located in Paris' Latin quarter. But then it's not as if the area had no other choice...

- staff: acceptable as Paris hotel people go, but will certainly not go the extra mile to help you
- rooms: interesting mix between what could be charming exposed wooden beams and dirty early 80s cheap decoration. Windows don't close well, mattress is worn and bathroom has running hot water, but nothing else to its credit (note attempt to modernise the look of it with badly mounted and already disjointed basin)
- cleanliness: non-existent, vacuum-cleaning under the bad is clearly alien to the staff
- price: paid 135 euros for two, I can't see what could possibly justify this.

“Location is not an acceptable excuse”

This place is so bad had we needed to stay more than two nights,we would have moved out.The bathroom had an aroma of sewage and the bath taps needed to run whilst using the bath in order to maintain a water level. The bed suited us but most drawer space was unavailable due to lack handles.Stepping from the broom cupboard lift on the 5th floor requires extreme caution in order to prevent falling down the staircase. The reception desk staff were pleasant.PS A TORCH IS A NECESSARY TRAVEL ITEM DUE TO ECONOMY LIGHTING.

“Overall, just OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

We stayed here for 3 nights...beds were full size yet comfortable, yet pillows were lumpy...floors were clean enough, bedspread was torn and dingy yet sheets were thankfully clean...the worst tho was the black mold in the bathrooms of the 2 rooms we stayed (gross!). Reception was nice and service for breakfast was good although breakfast itself was minimal (shouldn't expect too much for 8 euro a day tho). Also agree with other reviews that the hotel overall was cramped, from the lift to the winding starwell, tiny closet and rooms overall. I don't have any other paris hotels to compare with to say this isn't a Paris standard however. I am thankful that we didn't spend much time in the hotel and we were close to the metro and other attractions.

“'Faulty Towers'”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011 via mobile

PLEASE do not consider staying here. Firstly, the images online do not reflect how hot, dingy, pokey and uncomfortable this hotel is.

Secondly, the hotel appears to be living off of the "word of mouth" reputation of a similarly named hotel 'Hotel Rive Gauche' near the 'Jardin Du Luxembourg'.

The hotel interior has a reasonable looking reception which leads to a dingy, windowless, serious fire hazard stairwell with creamy vomit coloured walls. Combined with the paint flaking green bedroom doors and a death trap lift running alongside, first impressions are really depressing!

The pokey little bedrooms are just big enough for a double bed so you won't have much room at all for your luggage or to swing your knob...

The bathroom size was OK, but the knob kept falling off and because the room wasn't ventilated properly, there was mildeu on the walls.

OK, so your still not put off and you're thinking it's a cheap room to place your head for the night... Wrong! You probably won't be able to sleep anyway! The wafer thin walls and constant clunking and banging of the rickety old lift crashing up and down outside your room all night is enough to keep even the heaviest of sleepers awake!

We were unfortunate enough to also have a broken window lock, which meant the window wouldn't seal to block out the constant traffic noise of mopeds and drunks. Plus for whatever reason, the room was far too hot and sweaty to keep the window shut in the first place even in the autum.

Breakfast was made up of a glass of juice and a cup of coffee with 1/3 of a French stick and a croissant. Some days just a tiny bread roll instead of a French stick to add to the insult!

To top off a 'Les Miserables' stay, on checkout, the hoteliers tried to con us out of an extra €40 claiming we'd had an extra guest for breakfast one morning! We're not swingers you know! They also tried to charge us €9 each for breakfast when we'd booked online for €5 prior to arriving! Places like these should be shut down! Rubbish!

“Don't even think of staying here, no matter what the price !”

Wallpaper peeling off the wall .... blistering heat (the airconditioning wasn't working at first, then it came one one moment, off the next ..... noone at the front desk who was interested in helping.

I don't usually like writing scathing reviews, but this place needs to be AVOIDED .... go find a clean hotel in Clichy (where the super organized and clean Germans stay) ... and take the metro into downtown from there.

Room Tip: in Paris, just like New York, avoid the downtown hotels unless you are
