“Best nights sleep in france”

Only stayed there for one night. We managed to get a free upgrade to a suite. Very spacious, clean comfortable. Had 2 bathrooms (i think they knocked through 2 bedrooms). Close to the train station - 10 minutes from GD Lyon.

Only downside was the location - we went for a wander to find a restaurant and the local night life did not impress.

“Nice hotel, I'll be back!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2011

Stayed here with family in August 2011. This is a nice hotel. I've been to Paris a few times and the hotel rooms were, well, small. These rooms were surprisingly big, again for Paris! The rooms are modern with a flat screen on the walls, a minibar (expensive) and all the trappings. The double beds are BIG and there is plenty of room for a cot also.
The main thing about this hotel is location. It's about 200 yards from Place de la Bastille and about 50 yards from the metero (La Defence line) which will bring you to the Ryanair stop (Pointe Maillot), the Charles de Gaulle railway stop, it'll aslo drop you under the Louvre. Perfect for the tourist!
Breakfast in the hotel is ok. Small but ok. The staff are friendly and you can ask for more milk, bread etc... The reception is where this hotel excells, I had the pleasure of meeting 3 of the most competent individuals I've met on my travels here. The all speak good English as well as fluent French and couldn't be more helpful with any of your questions.
There are a good few reasonably priced restaurants around the hotel also for dinner.
Overall, I'd recommend it, I will be going back!

Room Tip: Room in lobby through the double doors is MASSIVE!

“Excellent location, friendly staff and reasonably good value”

Chosen via Trip Advisor and not dissappointed. Booked through Cresta and travelled by Eurostar. Metro direct from Gare de Nord to Bastille. (Watch out at Bastille signage is non existant due to refurbishments). Receptionist/Manageress Stephanie was brilliant. Speaks excellent English and is always prepared to offer advice/information if requested. She suggested that we took a bus in place of Metro for part of our exploring and even telephoned a restaurant to establish if they were open on a Bank Holiday Monday.
Our room 203 was at the back and very quiet. Room was fairly small but contained everything needed for a weekend. The bed was extremely comfortable and we had no problem sleeping. There was some gurgling from various pipes in the morning but nothing too outrageous. You could hear neighbours opening and closing doors but this was very infrequent. The room was air conditioned but even on maximum it struggled to keep the room very cool.
Breakfast was fine mainly with choice of cereals, fruit, pastries, bread and even some hot items like scrambled egg and bacon, (warmed up slices of ham) and continental sausages. There was also hard boiled eggs, yogurts, ham and cheese. There was a slight delay on two of the mornings as the assistant got a bit behind with clearing tables and a queue developed. On the last morning she forgot to plug the hotplate in and the scrambled eggs were cold. Still in all a very good selection for a 3 star Paris hotel I thought.
Metro was just up the road with easy access to three different lines. You could also walk to Isle St Louis in 20 minutes and Notre Dame in 30.
Overall an excellent base for a few days in Paris and one to which we would return.

Room Tip: Not much of a view but the rooms are quieter at the back.

“Never again”

Booked a double room at €195 per night. The room contained a double bed but had little space for anything else e.g. we had to move the bed to be able to open the door to the wardrobe containing the strong box. (A waste of time because the hotel had no key to the box.) Doors and partitions between rooms were so flimsy that the movements in corridors and in neighbours' rooms were clearly audible - and early morning start of builders doing alterations somewhere in the hotel did nothing to help.

Our comment to the receptionist got the response that we should have booked a suite (€ 278 per night).

We've got used to being ripped off in Paris - but this was a bit too far

“great amenities and location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 April 2011

The hotel room was small but adequate. We had a party of 3 in our group. All the beds were twins as we requested and the 3rd was a murphy bed (also twin). The bathroom was very well sized with a modern shower and sink.

The first 2 nights we were there, we were sweating our butts off despite turning on their "air conditioning". We opened the balcony doors but it was severely noisy (we had a 2nd floor room). It was toss up between sweating to death or not being able to sleep due to the noisy street. Luckily we were so tired from walking, it didn't bother us TOO much. The other rooms faced a street as well but not as busy. One of the mornings, we had breakfast in the basement level and same problem - it was so hot I had to cut my free breakfast short and take my coffee upstairs to my room. The lobby was also very warm most of the time. Eventually the weather got cooler temperature and we didn't have that problem again. I don't want to know what happens in the summer.

Every time we left the hotel, we had to leave the hotel key with them (they only have 1 key copy). They also provide a safety deposit box but you have to ask for the key. I was a little nervous about leaving the our balcony door open to air out but didn't have a problem with stolen stuff. We got back late one night (1 am) and found the hotel doors locked. The receptionist let us in after seeing us. We felt a little better knowing that after hours the doors are locked and they don't just let anyone in. The free wifi was decent but was down maybe once or twice during our week stay. The breakfast was also decent. Included sliced meats (pre packaged? saw them in the fridge), cheeses, canned fruits, croissants, cereal and coffee.

The location was unbeatable. The metro station was a 2 minute walk making every tourist site accessible. The Gare de Lyon station (major transportation hub) was also within walking distance (from The Tourist movie). We probably could have gone to Venice (13 hours?) but we'll save that for next time! The hotel is also walking distance (5-10 minutes) from the trendy Bastille area. Great restaurants, dessert, and souvenir shopping are available. I recommend also going to Monoprix (sorta like 7-11 but not 24 hours) if you get hungry for a snack or light meal.

Room Tip: Ask for a room NOT facing the Rue de Lyon
