We ie me, my wife, son, daughter in law and grandkids 2 and 5yrs- wanted to visit Paris and Eurodisney. We drove down from Calais avoiding the Autoroutes, to see the countryside and avoid the tolls.
We chose this site from the list of one of the Sun GBP 9.50 holidays.
My wife son and I had camped there almost 30 years ago en route back from Spain!
To be honest not a lot had changed. In a good way.
The site is still on a small island in the Seine, in a smart residential area.
It is generally quiet although mainline trains nearby can make their presence known to light sleepers.
It is a 15 minute stroll to Maison Lafitte station (more later) which has an RER service Line 1 which gets you to the Place D'Etoile/Arc de Triomphe in about 20 mins, and direct to Eurodisney ( Marne la Vallee) in just under one hour.
It can be reached fairly easily by car by Autoroute or free Routes National routes without having to endure the Peripherique.
Once you are parked up you do not need a car unless you choose to.
There is a huge Carrefour Mall about 10 minute drive away.
Maison Lafitte is an excellent choice, in my opinion.
Accomodation.
We chose what I would call a mobile home.
I am no expert but it looked quite new, and had 3 bedrooms. One double bed, one with two singles and one with a bunk bed.
Space was tight, as normal with a mobile home, but just about adequate. There is reasonable clothes storage.
There were several UK 3 pin sockets as well as 2 pin European ones, a very useful feature.
The living/dining area was spacious and again quite adequate.
The whole place was spotless when we arrived. This is very important to me.
We were here a couple of weeks before the end of the season, but there was nothing to fault.
The shower does warrant a mention. It is in a curious enclosure with a seat/step which does not seem to be either, in practice.
The shower itself I have to mark down, as controlling the temperature defeated us all. Separate hot and cold fawcets. Goes from very hot to cold without any obvious reason. Be careful not to scald yourself, the seat/step hinders movement. Could just have been us!
We were fortunate with the weather for October, however the place never became cold or clammy, and we only used the lounge gas fire a couple of times.
Facilities:
This was end of season. There is a shop on site but to be honest it looked tired and as though it was winding down. It opened at 8 and french loaves took a while to arrive.
I would suggest stocking up from the convenience store across from the station.
There was allegedly a pizza parlour next to the site shop it but it did not appear to be open when we went past it. WiFi available I think EUR 5 for 1/2 hour. Did not try it.
Again, opposite the station there are several bars and a Turkish takeway.
There is a laundromat but we did not use it.
Eurocamp and Keycamp both had representatives. Seemed friendly and helpful.
The camp has a reception with discount Eurodisney tickets. Again helpful.
On our last day we had to leave the accomodation at 10am. We had some final sightseeing to do in Paris, we asked and and were allowed to leave our cars on site until we came back mid pm,which we thought was a nice touch.
Getting around:
Probably the main reason for choosing this place is that it is a great base for travelling without the car. I have driven in and around Paris and it is not something I will willingly do again.
Maison Lafitte Station itself is unmanned outside commuter hours ( around 10am I think), when you are at the mercy of two automatic machines which seemed to confound not only tourists of several nationalities but locals as well! I thought I had wasted almost EUR 50 on the wrong tickets, fortunately the ticket office man a couple of days later took pity and exchanged them for the right ones. Top geezer.
Tips:
M-L is in Zone 4.
Eurodisney is in Zone 5.
The cheapest way to Disney is to buy a daily Mobilis ticket covering Zones 1-5 inclusive. EUR 14 ish.
To go sightseeing in central Paris, buy a MOBILIS ticket covering Zones 1-4. EUR 11ish.
For children buy a junior Paris Visite day pass, this is cheaper than the Mobilis.
The Mobilis ticket covers the RER services, the Metro, buses and even the funicular railway that takes you upto Sacre Coeur. Brilliant.
You can get all these out of the machine, if you persevere!
You have to sign and date all of these cards- you can be fined if not,I was told.
Overall, I would recommend the International Camping site. I would definitely use it again.
Room Tip: I would suggest that a mobile home or pitch on the western end of the island is less affected by mai...
