“Pleasant stay at Le Lionceau”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 March 2008

I went to Le lionceau with my wife for 1 week. We had a very nice stay. Our room was on a third floor by stairs, with window to the street. No front desk at the entrance. Very nice paintings on the walls. For any help one had to go to the main building around the block. But we just had to go to get and return the keys. My 70 years old father had recommended it to us. We had basic expectations, a clean room with daily cleaning service. We got it. No bad smells, no overly noisy street. And considering the cost (50 euros per day) we were very happy. The stay at Le Lionceau also gave us the feeling of staying in an apartment rather than in a hotel. And I liked that. The building is on a very nice pedestrian street with great little stores, and 2 blocks to the metro. I will certainly consider it in my next trip to Paris.

“what a shame”

Before you read, you have to know we've travelled around the world and our standards for sleeping are really really lower than most people. A clean bed and bathroom is the only thing we cannot pass on though.

We experienced the Lionceau annex and it was terrible. The most awful hotel I've ever been in. The odor gave us nausea and made it difficult to sleep. There was moisture all around the place, windows and bathroom. There is a world between the website picture and reality. We shortened our stay there and moved to another place.

I would surely hesitate to send my worst enemy there. If you can afford to pay 5-10 euros more, there are plenty of places you can go that would surely be nicer. If you can't afford 5-10 euros more? Stay home!

DÉGUEULASSE.

“Horrible Experience”

First, I should say that we originally booked our room for 4 nights through the Hotel Des Voyageurs (located on Rue Boulard) website, but when we arrived, they claimed that another part of the hotel (an annex), located around the corner in a different building, was where our room was. It had a different name, but they claimed it had the same owner and this was the only place they had room for us, even though we'd booked months in advance. They handed us a key to the other building (no reception over at the annex). So around the corner we went, to the Hotel Le Lionceau.

It's located on a wonderful street, but sadly this hotel is directly above a noisy restaurant, which stayed noisy until about 1am with kitchen sounds (pots and pans, music, scooting of furniture, etc.). There was a horrible odor in our room which seemed to come from the kitchen, perhaps where a vat of rancid oil was stored, we don't know. It was an awful stench whatever it was.

Then there was the room itself. One wall was damaged (water?) and was peeling. The shelf above the airplane-sized sink was tilted and hanging on it's hinges so that nothing was safe on it, and the shower was dirty. The sheets seemed clean, though. The room was totally depressing and horribly tiny for a family of four. We felt like it was a bait and switch, since they advertised "family rooms" on their website.

As there was no reception desk, I headed back to the main hotel (des Voyageurs) that night to ask if we could move to their location which seemed newly renovated and quiet. "Impossible" was the answer. So at 6am after a horrible night of sleep, I headed out looking for an alternate hotel. I found a great place around the corner (du Midi) which cost us about double the price, but was worth every cent. I returned to the hotel reception to see if they could offer us any other room, and no was still the answer, so we checked out and moved to the other place. The next three nights were spent in bliss at the wisdom of our move. Save yourself, and avoid this hotel.
