I stayed at the Hipotel Eden for eight nights during the second half of April 2011.
The good:
Cheap at EUR 40 a night for a single room (with a queen size bed). Room was kept reasonably clean. Close to two Metro stations (Pyrenees/Jourdain on a line that starts at Chatelet). Good bus connection. Plenty of shops, two coin-operated laundries and two supermarkets (Monoprix and Franprix) nearby.
The bad: The single room would have been great if it had a single bed, but was far too small for a queen sized bed, cupboard, table and chair. Because of the size of the bed I could hardly move and even had a problem opening my suitcase, because of lack of space. The bathroom/toilet has no place to hang a used towel to dry, or something above the tiny washbasin to put some toiletries. Also, the hotel does have free Wifi, but on my (5th) floor the wireless signal was very weak, meaning that more often than not I got disconnected and could only reconnect when signal quality had improved somewhat.
The terrible:
Even though the front desk guys were polite, service is abomidable when you really need it. Already upon arrival I noticed and complained that the main light in the room (a large fluorescebt lamp high on the wall above the bed) wasn't working. I immediately informed the man at the desk, who promised that "tomorrow the electrician will fix it". Well, "tomorrow", after returning in the evening to the hotel, nothing had changed and apart from two small bed lights, the room remained barely lit, because the main light had still not been repaired - all that had to be done was to change the burnt-out lamp. To make a long story short, during my eight nights' stay I must have re-notified the front desk men some sixteen times - each morning when leaving and each evening when returning - about that darn defect light fixture. And to make that story even shorter...it was never fixed. So, I stayed during the entire period in an almost dark room, not an especially exhilerating experience, considering that I was on a business trip and had to do some computer work on my laptop and some writing as well...in almost total darkness.
Room Tip: First check the room thoroughly.
