i went to hostel baccarat on my own and found many others doing the same thing. it was very friendly and you had the choice to venture out on your own or with other travellers and backpackers, each with their own story.
the staff are friendly and will try to help. they look after passports and other small items in their safe. there is a nice communal garden with tables and chairs and a place you can buy cheap coffee and breakfasts( or you can eat your own food and meet peple) . it is a good 10 mins walk to main square and old nice, but conveniently close to station.
