If you're a budget conscious traveller who doesn't need fantastic room facilities and doesn't mind walking or using the metro, then the Mont-Dore is perfectly adequate!
I stayed for three nights with my teenage daughter - ostensibly to get her practicing her French - and we were quite happy with the hotel. Yes, the rooms are small and you would have a job opening a suitcase on the floor or squeezing a cot in. The word 'shoehorn' springs to mind, especially if you choose to use the staircase(we were on the first floor so didn't bother with the lift). Yes, the breakfast is basic - but OK, and perhaps not all the towels are as snowy white as you'd expect from a better hotel. But we found the staff very obliging and happy to chat so that we could practice our French (except when the boss was on duty!), the room had comfy beds, a TV (with CNN News)and, oh bliss, a hot shower night and morning. Half-an-hour's walk took us to Montmartre, Boulevard Haussman or Arc de Triomphe, but the metro stops were only 5 mins walk from the hotel.

You could do much worse than stay at the Mont-Dore - just don't expect three star facilities!

“Personally i thought Hotel from Hell, Not family friendly at all”

We travelled to Paris with our 1 year old daughter and were told that this was a friendly family Hotel, perfect for us. When we arrived the look of horror on the receptionist face because we had a child was obvious. The first room we were given was too small for a cot to fit so were moved to another room (which didnt have a double bed but a twin only), then when the staff brought a cot it was a long strip of foam which they covered with a sheet!!!! I mean what was going on??? Needless to say our dughter had to sleep in bed with me , the room was so small there was just enough room to get out of bed. The shower sprayed everywhere but on you when you were in it!!! And ghe breakfast was 1 croissant and a baggette that closely resembled a bit of bark!! Honestly i'm not a person who is a perfectionist but i would strongly
recommend if you have children not to stay here. It took the reception 30 minutes just to book a taxi for us . Terrible experience.
p.s the pictures they use to advertise hotel are VERY flattering.

We thought it was nice. We too were sent down the hill from Hotel des Arts,victims of overbooking.Don't book with them or off you'll go following an overnight flight.What a bummer!I would return to Mt. Dore,however.

I've just come back from that hotel in Paris.. booked in hotel des Arts...but like many was sent away, supposedly to a better hotel!!!! problems with computer bookings . We were so disappointed when we got to Hotel du Mont Dore: no cachet, no style.. room service, I dont think so...we had to beg for a cup of tea , it costs a lot and we had to bring the tray back "they needed the cups for breakfast!!!"
We asked for a wake up call on the last day at 6.30 am, it never came...but on the second day we got one at 8am...
Nobody made any effort to give us breakfast on that last day, we were waiting for a taxi and tried to sit in the dining room at 7am but nobody came...Breakfast is supposed to be served between 7 and 9.30!!!
We were very disappointed with both hotels one for sending us away with lies( they said Hotel du Mont Dore was better and they would have to pay the difference in price!!! I dont think so!) and the other one for the poor service.

Like quite a few others we'd booked the Des Arts in Montmartre and like others we suffered their overbooking scam. We were transferred to the Mont Dore. Friendly staff. Our room was Ok & clean but small. Breakfast just OK. Montmartre it ain't - a sort of genteel nondescript area off to the West of where it's all happening. We ended up near the Des Arts in Montmartre both evenings. Few restaurants near the Mont Dore. And nothing much to visit or see. Bit boring really - you've always got a metro or bus trip before anything happens.
