“Worn hotel, pricy with quaint rooms.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

Was booked into this hotel by our travel secretary due to its location (walking distance) to our Parisian Head-office. The corporate rate that we payed is not bad, but if I had to pay their normal rates it would have been unacceptable.

The hotel seriously needs to get their refurbishing done, AND the general maintanance is poor. The breakfast "room" is not very inviting, the elevator is up 15 steps..(no not friendly for wheelchairs). The rooms have good beds, linnen and towels, the tv is a joke (old-fashioned 15" TV with mainly french channels), the minibar is just an empty fridge, which is ok since there is a small supermarket right across the street.

Will have our secretary book me into the Meridien next time since the price is virtually the same and the quality MUCH better.

Room Tip: Dont get room 105 since it is next to the stairs and you will hear everybody that goes up or down.

Dear Sir,

We're sorry you had a bad memory from your previous visit to the "Best Western Elysees Paris Monceau."

This winter, the Paris Prefecture has imposed work of compliance in our hotel.
We point out that these works were restricted to one part of the building, which portion is detached from the living space of our customers. Indeed, only the spaces in the basement of the hotel were affected by these renovations.

The main entrance of our hotel was borrowed by our workers for a few slots during the day, time slots during which most of our clients found themselves outside to go about their work or leisure activities.

We emphasize that our rooms were not affected by the program compliance and cleanliness was maintained daily by our cleaning teams.

The period for compliance to our hotel is finally over then we invite you to renew your experience to enjoy new services now offered.

The "Best Western Elysees Paris Monceau," a friendly place to live, a warm welcome daily, a service tailored to your needs, the wish to do well and keep your stay comfortable 24h/24h.

“OK if you have night vision goggles”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

Here on business, trying to use my laptop and review documents. The only usable lights are by the bed (I want to work at the desk, not lying in bed). The light near the wardrobe is so feeble that I cannot see to get the hangers back in their brackets - thoughtfully (not) they have set the door to open against what light there is, making the situation worse.
The desk is small and most of it is taken up by the TV - a little thought would have mounted it on the wall.
The room is small and overpriced, but that is typical of Paris.

“Nice, clean hotel in a convenient location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

I stayed at the hotel for a week in November. The hotel is conveniently located between 2 metro stations in a real Parisian neighbourhood. You will need public transportation to all of the major sights but it´s very easy to get around by metro.

The rooms are nice and clean but fairly small. This however is typical for Paris and should not bother you. Staff is also friendly & helpful. There is a PC with free internet in the lobby or you can use free wifi.

I did not have breakfast at the hotel which costs extra. There is a real French bakery as well as a supermarket right across the street. Several cafes and restaurants are nearby as well.

I would definitely stay there again.

“Unpleasant for female travellers”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

I have mixed feelings about this hotel. The location - on a (relatively) quiet side street about two blocks away from the Gare Lazare train station - is excellent. The rooms are very small but nice. I particularly loved the down comforters and pillows - very nice!

However, the staff at the hotel is among the worst I've encountered in years of traveling and working at inns. I booked the hotel through Priceline but unfortunately encountered a work situation in Tunisia that prevented me making the original dates of my reservation. Fully understanding the terms of the Priceline booking, I called the hotel to see if there was anything that could be done. The woman on the phone was kind enough to change the reservation for me. When I arrived on the dates of the new reservation, I spoke with the manager and discovered that the reservation I had confirmed was not actually made.

The manager (who should not be working in the hospitality industry) was rude, condescending and completely inflexible. I was given several different stories as to why the reservation I confirmed over the phone with one of his employees could not be honored, leading me to believe there were two options: the hotel's incompetence or outright lies. I went ahead and booked a new reservation for that night because there were very options for hotels at that point (2 in the afternoon during a busy conference week). I ended up paying double the price, received no apology or acknowledgement of wrong-doing and then was made to carry my luggage up five flights of winding stairs because the elevator was broken!

Worst of all, the room did not have a functioning lock - not pleasant for a single female traveller. I ended up barricading the door with my luggage just in case. The next morning, I checked out and was unable to get a straight answer from a new round of hotel staff on whether I would be a charged a no-show fee for my original reservation!

Based on this incompetence, I would recommed that all travellers stay away from this hotel - I would not trust my credit card number with people who barely understand the basics of running a hotel!

Dear Madam
Thank you for taking time with your comments on our property.
We are very sorry you didn't enjoy your stay last week; please accept our apologies for this negative experience.
Moreover, I have some explanations about several elements:
- Door locking: all of our rooms are totally secured. There are 2 securities: one with automatic locking when shutting the door, and one with chain if you don't feel secure. But with the automatic locking, no one can access your room.
- Elevator: It's true, our elevator was out of service several hours last week. This problem was solved very quickly. Anyway, when it happens, we always ask to your guests if they require assistance with luggage carrying. That's why we are surprised you had to carry your luggage by yourself. Please accept our apologies, this is an error from us.
- Rate/booking: with deeper investigation on your booking, we noticed that you were charged for both nights (october 15th & 16th), whereas you should have been charged for the 1st night only. That's why we made an immediate reimbursement today for the 2nd night, on the credit card you used for the 2nd stay (night of the 18th). You will see this reimbursement on your bank account in a few days. We are very sorry for this misunderstanding, & hope you will accept our compensation.

Dear Madam, we hope we will see you again at Best Western Elysees Paris Monceau, under better circumstances. Our guests comments are very important to us as they help us to improve ourselves everyday.
Please feel free to contact me directly (b.pluchart@hotelelyseesmonceau.com) if you need further explanations on the above details.

Kind regards
