“Terrible customer service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Booked the hotel via their own website but unfortunately had to cancel the booking due to work commitments.
Sadly lost £200 on non-refundable Eurostar tickets, but luckily Villa Royale have a good cancellation policy.
Cancelled the room weeks in advance of the booking so shouldn't be a problem.
come the week of the holiday find I have a £130 charge on my account.

They are very unhelpful, deny all knowledge of the cancellation (despite me having it in writing) then stop replying to all attempts at contact. No refund or compensation or even apology provided.

If this is reflective of the service in the hotel - I'd certainly recommend avoiding this one, there are plenty of other nice hotels in the area.

Room Tip: book into another hotel!

“Good sized rooms fro Paris, but no twin beds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

We booked our stay through Wotif and selected twin beds, as this option was given for this hotel. As a mother and adult daughter we were a bit surprised to find we ended up with a (large) double, but we had a laugh about it and got on with enjoying this rather unusual hotel. The location is just perfect, right above the Pigalle metro station, and walking distance from the Moulin Rouge, which was important to us as we had a reservation for the late show. It turned out to be a great spot to stay and we felt very safe there -no-one could just walk into the hotel, as all were "buzzed" in after staff checked you were okay to enter.
The room was surprisingly large for Paris, had a bench seat at the end of the bed, good sized cupboard, and a full sized bath with a shower over in a large bathroom, which was just fabulous. Restaurants underneath and across the road, a short distance (very walkable) to Montmarte - what a great place to stay. We stayed in the Cindy Crawford Room, on a corner, that fronted the hotel and the quiet side of the hotel, so we didn't have too much traffic noise, and also got a good cross breeze when we opened the windows. It was also good to have a safe in the room. We didn't eat there as there were so many food options around us...the hotel also has a cozy lift, handy on check in/out.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room that is on the quiet side of the hotel

“A fun and quirky experience!”

I have just returned from a two night stay at Villa Royale with my fiance, we had the pleasure of staying in the Mistinguette room - which was light, bright and spotlessly clean!
The room had a large, comfy bed, a well appointed bathroom with a powerful shower and bath - just the thing after a long day walking around Paris! The hotel staff were friendly, polite and welcoming (unusual for Paris in my opinion).
After my initial concerns regarding staying in Pigalle, I was pleasantly suprised - yes it's alive and bustling, full of sex shops and strip clubs etc - but they are there only if you wish to visit them! I slept soundly both nights of my stay - so noise is not a concern!
The hotel is located close to Sacre Couer and a stones throw from the metro.
My one warning would be to avoid Cafe Omnibus next to Villa Royale - overpriced, low quality food served by rude staff!!
I would recommend Villa Royale to any young couple travelling to Paris - Enjoy!!

Room Tip: Choose a room on the Place de Pigalle side, standing on the balcony watching the world go by is a mu...

“Very mixed experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

My wife and I travelled to Paris for our anniversary and I booked this hotel for it's location and it seemed reasonably priced for a 4-star hotel in Paris.

Location-wise it was excellent, really close to Montmartre and some great Brasseries and Cafes. We really enjoyed Le Sancerre (on Rue des Abesses) and fantastic breakfasts at Coquelicot (nr Abesses metro station). There is so much to do around this area so the hotel was very convenient, as long as you don't mind the sex shops and lap-dancing joints which are pretty prolific around this area. For us it made up part of the atmosphere and made it feel like a genuine experience of Paris.

The room was disappointing. Good things were the bed was comfortable and the bath had a jacuzzi, which was great after walking for long periods around the city. Unfortunately the main light in the room did not work, the bathroom mirror/lamp was broken and the shower attachment for the bath was not working properly. The decor was quite dingy - all dark red, and for some tastes I am sure great but just felt a bit too dark in the room. The room had great views over Pigalle and you could just see Sacre Couer from the bedroom windows which was a bonus.

The reception staff, whilst perfectly friendly, were a little ineffective. After asking for some suggestions for nights out and help booking a cabaret for one of the evenings, I was told that they would get back to me, however this did not happen, which was a bit disappointing. The domestic staff were good, the rooms appeared quite clean but we always seemed to have a lack of towels. I also felt that for a 4-star hotel that the staff would in some way be more helpful with the practical things such as helping with luggage. When checking out we wnated to leave our bags safe whilst we went for a walk, however there is a lounge that they use for this purpose which is open and guests/staff can just wander in and out which felt less secure than we would have liked.

Overall, there were some good things about the hotel but I feel it has some way to go to live up to it's 4-star rating. I would expect it to be 3-star - and if that were the case, with the price reflected, we would return here, if only for it's excellent location.

Room Tip: The 4th floor has some great views over Pigalle.
