“Bastille Day 2011”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Most of the suites have a few of the Eiffel Tower, if you can squeeze onto the small balcony. We had a wonderful view of the Bastille Day fireworks silhouetting the Eiffel from the Trocodero. The room was small (aren't all French rooms small?), but adequate and fairly clean overall.
We enjoyed our stay, and the staff were attentive and courteous, getting us taxis whenever we needed one in quick time. Breakfast was a good value and the hotel is located within an easy walk of Rue Cler market (wine, baguette, cheese, chocolate!), shopping, a mid-priced restaurant (Officiers), Metro stop, etc. I never felt worried about crime inthe 7th arr., and never encountered rudeness.
If you are taking any of the standard bus tours though, you might consider staying at that end of town. The buses leave early, so you would miss breakfast, and there's a bit of a ride on the Metro to get across town to the tourist buses.
However, we did 'lose' an android phone during a tour bus trip; my husband and I fell asleep on the bus (jet lag), and we believe his pocket was picked by a small child with his very talkative Romanian Mom. Lots of 'urchins' from other countries on the streets, on tour buses near the tourist areas, and on the right bank. Guard your stuff near the train and metro stations!

Room Tip: Get the superior room and you will have a decent view of the Eiffel Tower. Bathtub is raised about 1...

“Needs serious renovation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

I booked this hotel for the location and for the view on Eiffel tower.

I arranged all a couple of months before with the reception.
The D-Day, the room we had didn't offer a front view on Eiffel tower, we had to go out to see the majesty, I was disappointed because the guy from the reception was formal when he told me on phone we will have a front view.

First feeling when we enter into the room: very small and need to be renovated: the wallpaper is unstuck, the lines are clearly visible. The chair is damaged (see picture), the edges of the desk are damaged so that the chipboard is visible.

The bathroom is not very clean and need to be renovated as well. The taps are old and we have to force to turn the water on/off. The shower curtain was mouldy.

Brief, I keep a very bad memory of the conditions.

The only advantage is the location, the subway is reachable in 2 min and Eiffel tower in 10min by walk.

I felt like in a typical touristic trap. I will not return to this place.

Room Tip: Take the suite if you want a front view on Eiffel tower.

“Good location”

Walked easily up to the Champs Elysee to see the Christmas decorations and the Christmas mart. The hotel is located within walking distance to the Tour Eiffe as well as the Latin Quarter and the Seine River. We had a superior room and that was just large enough since we had little luggage. The hotel has a lift to the upper floors and the breakfast room in the basement. Clean and adequately appointed. The breakfast is very basic and you have to pay extra to have fruit juice and eggs. There is a rather steep charge for access to wireless internet and I would recommend the hotel to include that in the room price. The beds were very good and we had a very good night's sleep.

“Worst hotel”

Rude staff. Bugs (or worms?) in a very small and filthy room. Shower not working. No view of the Tower at all (even after our requests and the staff's promises). It's also very hard to sleep because of the noise from the streets. Worse than a motel. Please avoid it.

“Incredible value, great location!”

We took our 16 year old daughter to Paris in November 2011. After many weeks of searching for the "right" hotel, right location and right price for our short 3 night stay, I came across the Hotel Splendid on Tripadvisor. I contacted the hotel directly regarding availability and received a response within 12 hours. We had originally reserved the standard room with a side view of the Eiffel tower, but then upgraded to the junior suite for our family of 3. It being the off season the suite was available.

We arrived mid afternoon after traveling 15 hours, to a very pleasant staff. We were checked in quickly, as they recognized how tired we were. Because our trip was so short, we knew we wouldn't be spending much time in the hotel, so we didn't need much in the way of amenities, but wanted something comfortable. We had the junior suite on the top floor. As we stepped of the elevator to a dark hallway, we were a bit surprised. But quickly found the light switch, which turn off the lights after a few minutes. Once in the room, the first and most important find, was the view. There was a twin sleeper sofa for our daughter, and a queen for my husband and me. The room was comfortable and the bathroom was a good had a nice tub/shower.

Our experience at the Hotel Splendid was just that, Splendid! The staff were very pleasant and very helpful with tips of how to get around. This being our first trip to Europe, they also gave us tips on restaurant opening times which most don't open till 7-7:30 and alternatives for an earlier meal. The location was perfect, a short walk to the Eiffel Tower, the Hotel de Invilade, the metro. We also walked to the Louvre and Notre Dame, which was a bit longer. The weather was pleasant and it was a beautiful walk through the streets of the neighborhoods of Paris. The breakfast was basic, croissants, rolls, fruits, cheeses and juices. You can order additional breakfast items at a small charge, but we found the basic breakfast was enough.

If we ever get the chance to return to Paris, we will stay at the Hotel Splendid. I will make sure to reserve this hotel before anything else is booked so that we will be able to stay. I have already recommended this hotel to a few friends who are planning a trip to Paris in the spring and I know they will be just as happy as we were.
