My husband and I stayed at the hotel for a week in October (2011). Because we were celebrating our anniversary, and we had read both positive and negative reviews on Tripadvisor, we emailed the hotel, explained that we were celebrating our 25th anniversary, and asked that they take extra care in assigning our room. They promptly responded and assured us they would.
The downsides:
The room we got was VERY small, with a double bed and, as reported in a previous review, there was a fair amount of mold in the shower. The refrigerator in the room did not operate. There was a small desk with chair and a small luggage console.
We asked about the possibility of moving to another room and were quickly given the opportunity of looking at three other rooms. The first was right next to the reception desk. It had a king-sized bed and was much larger than our room, but in just a couple of minutes, it was clear that we would hear everyone and every conversation in the lobby.
The second room was also larger than our room and had a tub whose porcelain was chipped to bare metal. The third room was very similar to ours and had an equally moldy shower. In the end we stayed with our original room...one suitcase on the desk, one on the luggage console, and two romantically-inclined adults on a double bed.
My husband got tangled in the draperies every time he climbed in bed (the bed was about 18 inches from the wall/window/drapes). It became somewhat comical, coupled with trying to put anything on the approximately one square foot shelf that served for an end table. Wi-Fi was not operating on our first day, but was quickly fixed when we reported it.
The Upsides:
We spent very little time in the room, which was in the rear of the hotel and very quiet. The staff was uniformly wonderful and very helpful. Breakfast was included with our room and was served from 7:00 am. It was more than ample and a nice way to start the day. One day my husband was a bit under the weather and Yasmina quickly accommodated the situation with a tray to take up to the room. There was a large, modern flat screen TV that got both the BBC and MSNBC. The hotel, while a bit off the typical tourist path, was close to two Metro stations, Pernety (line 13) and Alesia (line 4 and a rare exit escalator) that got us to everything we wanted to see with a maximum of one change. It also was close to some nice and not terribly expensive restaurants. It does have free WI-FI. And, the front desk was covered 24 hours per day.
Would we stay there again?
We’re not sure. We had hoped for a little better ambiance. The hotel was a bit drab but served its purpose, and other Tripadvisor reviews had prepared us for those possibilities. If you are looking for a Courtyard, Hampton Inn, etc., you will be disappointed. If you remain open-minded, don’t spend much time in the hotel, and can overlook moldy showers and spotty carpets the staff just might win you over.
Room Tip: Don't choose the one next to the front desk. The hotel has rooms with showers and with tubs, an...
