Just back from a wonderful 4 night stay in Paris. We wanted a room with a balcony and eventually decided on the Hotel Elysa Luxembourg. All my initial queries both prior to booking and after were dealt with efficiently by the reception staff. We booked a superior room with balcony on a high floor - breakfast included in the price.
On arriving in CDG airport we took the RER B line to the Luxemboug stop. We got off at Luxembourg station, way-out rue Gay-Lussac. Once you are outside turn into Rue Gay-Lussac, where you will find the property at n°6. - less than 1 minute from the station. We bought our RER tickets at the machine in the airport - €9.10 each (have change/card - machines don't seem to take notes - otherwise buy ticket from Information Desk). On the way back to the ariport there is an information booth across the road from the Luxembourg stop so bought our tickets there in advance
Check in was quick and we took the smallest elevator I have ever been in to the 5th floor. We only had 1 piece of hand luggage each and we just about fitted in. Having said that the lift was always working and there was never any real delay
Our room was as booked - 5th floor with 2 small balconies - with a view of the Eiffel Tower - was fabulous to see it lit up at night (did not realise we had view until the second day as on our arrival fog was heavy and Eiffel Tower not visible!!!). The room was reasonable in size - was definitely not a "box" room. The was a small wardrobe with shelves and hanging space, safe, tea/coffee making facilities (we bought a jar of coffee across the road in the shop as we had a few cups a day), flat screen tv, mini bar which we did not use. The bathroom was clean with shower over bath (you would not want to be too tall as the shower was not fitted very high up). There was a haridryer in the bathroom. Shower gel provided was a dispenser on the wall - no little bottles shampoo etc. (No bathrobes/slippers - which we were not expecting anyway). The bed was comfortable - was a proper double bed not two singles pushed together
Free wifi in the hotel
The breakfast was served in the basement - it would seat about 16/18 but there would have been absolute chaos if everyone decided to come down together. Each day we went for breakfast about 9 and were on our own for the most part. There was bread, toast, croissants, 2 types of pastries, coffee, tea, juices, fruit, yogurt, packaged cheese and a small selection of cold meat. For hot food there was scrambled eggs, sausages, and you could also boil eggs for yourself. Breakfast was included in our rate but am not sure that I would pay €12.50 for it - especially if you are only looking for a coffee and croissant. We saw signs passing nearby cafes for coffee, juice and corissant for €6 - but if you want more that that I am sure you would pay much more than €12.50. Although definitely not the best breakfast ever (and we always have breakfast when away) it would set you up for the day - not, in my opinion, as bad as some reviews say.
Location is just minutes from the Pantheon and about 10 minute walk to Notre Dame. Plenty cafes/bars and places to eat nearby.
On our first night we ate at Cafe Luxembourg which was closeby and it was very nice - on another night we went to Comptoir du Pantheon which was terrible.
