We booked directly with Citadines at a great early bird prepaid rate staying 8 nights. We have stayed at other Citadines in Paris so knew what to expect. We visit Paris often and wanted a location a little further out from 3 or 4er but close to the Marais so thought we would give the "Republic" location a try. This hotel states its name/location as "Volitaire Republic" but the reality is that is a 20 min walk from Republic but only about 50 meters or 2 minutes from the Parmentier metro station. Stairs at Parmentier are few and there is an escalator which makes it easy for travellers with luggage. Downside is it is on Metro line 3 - meaning to get to Gare du Nord you must connect from Parmentier to Republic, change lines and then on to Gare du Nord. This connection through Republic is required to connect to Line 1 at Chatelet for museums (along the Seine). This is not ideal - but the trade offs may be worth it: better room rate in good 3.5* "newer" hotel with larger rooms and kitchen facilities (we do not use these), off the tourist trail and higher price bars and restos that go with them. Adjacent to Parmentier is Rue Oberkampf with a plethora of very good bistros and bars. To the hotel: we stayed on the 4th floor in a spacious jr suite. Bedding minimal and thankfully the heater worked. Pillows were very uncomfortable and fell flat and stayed that way all night. Mattress was firm but with some cushion. Cleaning every 3 days as this is an apt. hotel. Staff spoke exc. english and all were well trained and professional. Breakfast was a bonus we received as repeat customers - and was typical continental with hard boiled eggs and cheese. Immediately outside the front door of hotel is a bakery, grocer, restaurants and bars. Within 2 blocks there are many of the same. This hotel is a 3-3.5 hotel by North American standards.
