Hotel Saint Charles is a three-star hotel with modern and sleek decor. It is located in the chamingly village-like Butte aux Cailles in the 13th arrondissement, away from tourist hotspots. The 13th arrondissement is an interesting mix of 60s building projects, a thick concentration of Asian restaurants, narrow village streets and parks. It is a great choice, if you have already visited Paris and want to see something different.
The hotel itself is very pleasant, simple and stylish. The room was spacious enough for two, very clean and even the faucets in the bathroom worked very well for a Central European hotel. There is even a mini fridge for your luncheons. Our only complaint is that even though the hotel advertised their satellite channels, there are no English-language channels on the tv, and most of the satellite channels are not free.
The hotel offers free wifi, but you have to ask for a password for each of your devices, if you have more than one. The internet also jammed on a few occasions, but was usually back up and running after a few minutes.
There is virtually no soundproofing to the corridor, but noise from other rooms probably won't reach you.
The breakfast is not included, but is maybe better than average with crispy baguettes and croissants, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit and the usual yogurts and cereal. The coffee from the automatic machine isn't that good, but luckily you can cover the bitter black stuff with ample hot milk.
All in all, the hotel offers good price-to-quality ratio, as it is a bit off the beaten track. Especially if you can find a special internet price.
