First off, the use of the words Eiffel Tower is tenuous - it's like 'London' Stansted Airport ... Yes it's on the same side of the river in the general area, but a title like Worksite Building Wasteland in the general area of the Eifel Tower Novotel would be more appropriate. The positives, the reception and restaurant areas are lovely and modern, spacious, clean. Unfortunately this sets you up for a big fall. We were staying on the 30th floor, and as soon as we stepped out of the lift noticed the marks all over the walls, it was like every person who has stayed there has banged their bag and left streaks or marks around. The muted dark lighting I think was more to hide the tattiness than to give a cool atmosphere. The room itself was pleasant, but as with a previous review, the airconditioner could not be controlled by us. There was a box on the wall, but the top of it came off in my hand, and I wasnt sure if turning the dial heated or cooled the room - both directions made no difference.
Overall feel was tatty. The bathroom smelt stale, and could have done with a lick of paint.
Not the worst hotel in the world, but a let down for the money. We also decided to eat in the restaurant, chose veal - not inexpensive, but the warning bells rang when they brought out steak knives... Then came the meal. Presented beautifully - alas the closest the lump of meat on the plate came to veal was probably driving past it in a truck on the way to the knackers.
We told the waitress it was not veal, the boss then came over, argued it was - I explained veal is either light pink or white - that's all. NEVER a lump of tough red meat. They offered us the menu again for another meal - then proceeded to tell us it was veal we had been served - I just asked for the bill, paid for drinks and left. My mother's words were - I won't be called a liar, have a nice evening.... If only people in customer service were trained about customer service.
If you want an Eiffel Tower hotel - the Hilton or Mercure (slightly tattier though) are actually only 5 mins walk from the tower.
