“Good location and price but avoid because of the tiny rooms”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2007

I would not stay in this hotel again because the rooms are tiny even by Paris standards.

The decor is dated and in bad need of refurbishment. The reception and lift are the smallest I have ever seen. The lift fits one person with luggage. When you get to the hotel room there is no room for your luggage anyway or anywhere to store clothes (see my photos)! The rooms were very warm and noisy if you get a street side one.

The good point about this hotel is the location and the price. It is a good location to explore Montmartre and right beside the Place de Clichy metro station. But there are numerous hotels in the area that I would book ahead of the Aurore.

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights and were due to stay for another four nights a week later but we cancelled it and booked the Ibis Montmartre just around the corner for a few euro more a night. The location is just as good and the rooms are twice the size. The hotel is also much more modern.

“Great rate”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2007

There was 11 of us. We needed somewhere cheap, cheerful, and central to stay at short notice and during the Rugby World Cup.

We got lucky. This hotel did the job .. although the rooms were very hot!!

The location was fabulous and the price (especially considering most of Paris was booked) was perfectly acceptable. Not somewhere I'd go for romance but with a group of people it was just fine!

  • Liked — It's location and cost!
  • Disliked — The rooms were hot and the road outside a bit too noisy to have the window open

“Decent Accommodation”

Good location - near metro stop, restaurants, grocery stores, laundromat, etc. We were assigned to a triple room on the ground floor directly off the lobby. Would be small but functional for 3. We were only 2 so fine for us. Bathroom was in desperate need of upgrade but worked OK. Staff were pleasant and helpful.

“Good hotel if you mainly need a place to spend the night”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2007

I stayed in Paris for about 6 days. I chose this hotel because of its reasonable price - for Paris standards - and the location (close to the metro system).
I overall enjoyed the stay there. The hotel is clean, the staff is really friendly, and they speak English! The rooms are quite small, but that seems to be the same almost anywhere in Paris. My room did not face the street, so it was quiet.
The main advantage of this hotel is its location: The metro stop - Place de Clichy - is in about 1 min walking distance. Montmartre is in walking distance. There are places to have breakfast close by (the hotel offers breakfast that is slightly cheaper than the Brasseries around, but I have not tried it). There are also restaurants and grocery stores.
So, if you mainly need a place to spend the night, this is a good hotel to book.

“Basilique du Sacre Coeur”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2006

We have arrive home fom our trip to France. We stayed at the Hotel Aurore Montmartre, Paris, booking directly with the hotel website. Book as early as you can as the hotel offers special rates booked online. We booked online a triple room for my partner and I as the room was the same $rate as a double room (special offer online booking). Worth it if you want the extra space in your room.

ur triple room had a colour TV, queen bed, 2 seperate single beds (can be sofas), a wardrobe closet, mini fridge, seperate bathroom-shower and bath, toilet and washbasin. The room doesn't have airconditioning, but has large opening windows in the bathroom, and 1 each at opposite ends of the main room. So 3 windows in total.

Our room was on the top (5th) floor so we slept comfortably with all 3 windows opened. The only noise we heard from our room was at 5am the cleaning trucks - sweepers cleaning the street. Not a problem! just a strange sound on the 1st morning.

The hotel breakfast is served from 7-10am. It was great to get up, eat and feel ready to explore Paris. Breakfast is continental. Croissants, french bread, sweet bun, orange juice, coffee, hot chocolate, tea, cereal, yoghurt. Costs 7Euro for breakfast. Very nice to eat in the converted cellar. its wam and nice way to start the day.

We enjoyed the location of the hotel in Paris because it is unbelievable handy to the transport system. The lovely guys on reception can point you in the right direction if your ask nicely. He will give you a map and is friendly and helpful. He also speaks good english if you speak slowly and clearly and smile.

The bus stop pick up and drop off is right outside the hotel. The metro is 200 metres away. The Opera bus link to and from the Charles DeGaulle airport is at the end of the street. If you buy a all day pass or week pass for the buses from the metro station, you can ride the buses all over paris - unlimited rides. This is best and cheapest way to sightse Paris.

If you are not in Paris long, then i recommend a ride on the Paris tour buses. The bus ride is 2-3 hours long. It takes you to all the major landmarks in Paris. The bus is commentated. It stops for passengers to take photos. The bonus is that your tour bus ticket is good for 2 consecutive days. I recommend that you ride the bus on-stop the 1st day to see what interests you. On day 2 decide where you want to explore e.g. musee de louvre, notre dame, vendome, champs de mars, eiffle tower, trocoero, arc de triomphe, champs ellyse, river seine etc, then you can ride the bus and get on and off whenever you like, as often as you like :-) so great!

We found a great dairy (food shop) on the same street as hotell about 200 metres away. We brought all our lunch food from there for about 10 euros you can get heaps. And we had lovely picnics in different places in Paris - very special.

There are lots of place to eat in Paris, especially in Montmartre it is fun. We walked up to Basilique du Sacre Coeur and although its touristy its fun to see the artists and the beautiful amosphere of the the old town. Have dinner in that area, there are many places to choose from, every eatery, restaurant, cafe spills out onto the sidewalk. There are no cars up there and the place is alive with friendly, buzzy people just happy to be there.

The hotle is clean, could do with some minor repairs, but hey when you're in Paris who cares about a cracked tile or abit of peeling wallpaper??? I recommend this hotel because the people who work there are friendly, english speaking, the hotel is nicely presented and clean. The room is cleaned daily and our belongings were not tampered with by the cleaning lady. The hotel has a very small elevator, and the other thing which is important especially for claustrophic people is the staircase which goes to the top floor (5th floor). You can walk all the way to your room - YIPPEE!

I would stay at Hotel Aurore Montmartre any time i am in Paris - without hesitation.

  • Liked — location and its access to transportation system is excellent
  • Disliked — no airconditioning - get over it!
  • Tips/Secrets — bookonline the special rates e.g. triple room for price of dble room.
