The one thing this hotel has going for it is location, cannot be beaten. It is a stone's throw from the Louvre and the Opéra. Metro stations very close by as well, handy when you have young children whom you are dragging all over the city. The Boulevard des Italiens, a 3 minute walk away, is lined with a huge number of restaurants, lots of quick and easy pizza places. One good tip I had from this site was to grab breakfast at the little Boulangerie Fontaine Gaillon opposite the hotel, much cheaper and probably better than the hotel breakfast - amazing fresh croissants and fresh orange juice.
The negatives - we had a triple room with an extra bed as we have 2 kids. There was no way this room was meant to take that many which to be fair the hotel called and warned us of. But having booked it we had little choice and there was really no room to move at all. It was at best a double room, not even a triple. We stayed in 2 different rooms as we went away for a day in between. In the first one (room 42, 4th floor) the bathroom was small but very new, so very clean and sparkling. In the second (room 12, 1st floor) the bathroom was rather older, more run-down, clean but in need of renovation. The pillows on the beds were also less than adequate and the hotel staff were unable to find us more than one extra pillow.
It is an old building so has character, and to be honest the noise once the windows were shut did not bother us at all even on the 1st floor. I would stay here again overall but only if I was travelling alone or as a couple. Else I would just book 2 rooms for the 4 of us.
