For some reason this place felt like home. It's a hotel with small floors (maybe 5 rooms per floor), a small reception, and a diminutive elevator. Very cozy.
My room had a very good genuine double bed, which was a tight fit, such that I could reach out of the bed to slide open the bathroom door and practically roll in. And that was a tight fit too, requiring airline economy class seating style antics to use the toilet. The shower too was small and I probably woke everyone one morning with animated use of arms making contact and disassembling the shower soap dish.
That said, the heating worked well, the windows opened onto a largish central well over a courtyard, and the work desk was well-placed and functional.
The rate was pretty good for Paris. The staff were variably pleasant or uncommunicative - depending on the person and the time of day. Very Parisian!
The location is a 5 minute walk from Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est so if you are using those, it's great. In general terms, the area is like those around all major stations - a bit grungy, but is walking distance from the fancier parts of Paris. Take the Fauborg St Denis and you will find a number of local bistros mixed in with the Turkish and Indian places.
