“Metro Line 2 to the hotel must be avoided.”

Read mix reviews about this hotel. Booked a package with Orbitz which supposed to come with free breakfast, wi-fi and a river cruise. Arrived this morning with my two children (teens), took the RER to Garde du Nord to line 4, and than to line 2 at Barbes-Rochechouart. What a mistake, one-half of the escalators in these metro station did not work, and there is no elevator. During the transit to line two, there were tons of youg women and men , who appear to be gypsies surrounding us, especially around my youngest one. We were crowed since there were no escalator and operational elevators for the 3 flight of stairs we must climb. Eventually my daughter's backpack was completely unzipped. Although a by-stander called the gang out consisted of of two girls and at least one boy as what they were doing, and nothing of importance was missing, but noticed how run down the place is, plus both of my children were afraid of making metro connection at Barbes-Rochechouart. One of them cried and refused leave the hotel. We were told our package did not come with free wi-fi (even though that was promised on the Orbitz website when I booked it.Although I have already fully paid for our hotel stay at Berne Opera, we asked the front desk to assist us to get a taxi, we left in a heartbeat, and were lucky enough that my agent at the Fine Report & Hotel Program could book me a room at Hotel de Crillon- as the Ritz, Park Hyatt and Hotel Athanee were all booked.

Room Tip: Room, public places and waiting areas are unkept and very dated.

“Paper hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 June 2011

It's 3 star, in Monmarte region of Paris. The walls are so thin you can hear your neighbors breathe. Bathroom not comfortable. Internet connection is expensive, not convenient to log in and very poor quality. Overall - worse than average.

“A great hotel, ideally situated away from other tourists”

This was a great find - a 3-star hotel in a residential area with great customer service.

We arrived on a late afternoon and were warmly greeted by the front desk person. While our actual room was not ready upon arrival, they gave us an adequate room for the evening and then the rest of our 10-night stay was in a nice, large, modernly-upgraded room with a nice city view. The bathroom still looked like it could use a modern touch, but the room was very impressive. Our stay was during the winter and the temperature inside the room was around 75 - it was nice and toasty...to cool it down, we just opened the large windows and it really wasn't a big deal. The location was great - a 15 minute walk to Arch de Triumph and a 20 minute walk to Montmartre. This is not at all a touristy area, which I definitely appreciate - you could really feel like a Parisian. It's very close (a 2 minute walk) to the "Rome" Metro station and there are grocery stores, bakeries and restaurants all within walking distance from the hotel. The customer service was excellent and all staff members were friendly and spoke English, which made everything much easier for our vacation.

If you are looking for a great hotel experience, this is a very good choice. The price point was very nice too - although it was during the low-season in late November-early December, our room was only about $100(USD)/night - what a deal! Breakfast was also available (not included in the cost of the room), but we never ate there since there were so many bakeries close-by. They were renovating the hotel during the day so we did hear some pounding and knocking, but it was always pleasant during the morning and evening and I never felt it was a bother.

“you get what you pay for”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 April 2011

So my friend and i stood at this hotel from 4/13/2011-4/17/2011. When we got there we found out that they were doing construction in the hotel. The building smelled a lot of pain. There were construction materials all over. They gave us a room on the 2nd floor and the paint smell was so strong that we had to ask them for a different room. The heating system was broken in the first room and also in the 2nd room. The rooms are tiny!!. They don't even have an iron in the rooms. If you need one, you have to ask to borrow it from the front desk. The only decent thing about this hotel was the breakfast and some of the staff. The cleaning crew were polite and nice. There was one lady at the front desk who tried her best to accommodate us. But there was a guy in the front desk that was just unpleasant to deal with. The last day of our stay we got up early to go get breakfast and afterward we wanted to head out to try to buy something before checking out. When we were heading out it was 9:00am and check out was 11:00am. The unpleasant/rude worker from the front desk had the nerve to chase us down the streets like we were thieves to question us when we were coming back because check out was at 11am. Mind you all of our luggage and bags were still in the room at this point. He had the nerve to tell us that we cannot plan to stay another day at the hotel since they are booked for that day and they need the room. We told this person that it was never our intention to stay another night since we have a plane to catch in a few hours. i would definitely not recommend this hotel at all. We stood at this place because we wanted to save some money and at the end we regretted that decision. The hotel is close to the metro, which is the only good thing about it.
