This location is incredible and I got quite a good deal on it - like $134 / night. I wasn't looking for a five-star experience; I know a 3-star needs to have comfortable amenities yet won't change my life with the details; all while not exacting a fortune from my wallet. So based on that description, this hotel is absolutely without fault.
10th trip to Paris and this is the best location I've even stayed in (Right or Left Bank). It's situated right in the heart of the 6th and festooned with gorgeous little shops and restaurants and street markets selling cheese, charcuterie, flowers, wine, etc. So many cool things to look at, eat, buy, drink that I was downright overwhelmed. Fantastic brief walk past a few charming parks and the Pont des Artes bridge right to the Louvre, and another fantastic walk in the other direction the Bon Marche. Last year I stayed on the Right Bank right off the Place Vendome - but I like this area better!
So the design isn't exactly my taste - it's got old silk-lined wallpaper and very overly ornate pictures and gilt mirrors. I'm more of a modernist. But you know what? After a while it really grew on me. Gold fabric wallpaper? Why not!? Breakfast was 12 Euros and I really liked it - big pitchers of coffee and steamed milk with baguette, butter, croissant, pain au chocolat, and then a hot buffet. You could certainly do worse. You can (should!) also go other places (LIKE PAUL - the patisserie right outside the hotel with croissants that smell so good you'll weep) but I was too lazy.
The people at the hotel were very helpful, personable and talkative, and didn't bat an eye when I couldn't hack the language.
Unless I win the lottery and can afford L'Hotel Paris right nearby, this will be my hotel for the next 10 trips :)
