“Excellent value; just be prepared to leave key at reception”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I chose this hotel based on a recommendation by my aunt and I was very happy with it. Honestly, I cannot imagine better value in Paris. I stayed in the least expensive room in the hotel - a single room for 45 euros a night - and there is just no way that for the same price you could find another room of that quality in Paris. The bed was comfortable; there was even a small TV; there was a useful washbasin; and even though the toilets were shared, they were right beside the room and they were never occupied when I needed them. The location is great for normal Paris sightseeing stuff, especially with the métro right there. If you want to do late-night clubbing, it isn't the best location, but still isn't bad.

The one thing I would like them to change about this hotel is their policy of leaving the key at the reception. Every time you leave the hotel, you need to leave the key, and then request it when you come back. This isn't very convenient as sometimes you have to wait at the reception for them to give you the key. I also don't like this because they seem to control very strictly if you are allowed to bring visitors into the room with you. I mean, this is Paris, the 'city of love', and I don't think that the hotel should restrict you from bringing new friends/lovers to the room if you so happen to meet any :-) -- I mean, you are paying for the room, it doesn't cost them anything for you to bring a visitor to it, and from what I was told, they do restrict visitors with their current policy. This is probably the first hotel I've ever stayed at with such a policy.

Other than that, thumbs up for the hotel -- terrific service; great rooms for the price, and very nice location. I do think they should change their key policy though.

“central location on Rue Cler”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

My wife, young son and I have stayed several times at this hotel. It is well situated in the 7th arrondissement Rue Cler area, on a traffic free street packed with fresh fruit venders and restaurants - the crepe place across the street is good and there are several cafes up and down Rue Cler. ATM across the street and a couple of grocery places.

The hotel is within walking distance of two metro stations and a five minute walk to Napoleon's Tomb, the Champ de Mars and Eiffel Tower. This is one reason we love the place.

The rooms are nice - normal Paris size - and have air conditioning. There is computer access and small sitting / dining area. Breakfasts are like 8 euro. They also have a storage area for luggage if you arrive early or leave later in the day. The rates are a steal for the location.

“small friendly hotel”

We had a standard double room to the front of the hotel. The room was small but cosy as it was very cold outside. We had a flat screen TV but only one English speaking channel(CNN news). However we did not go to Paris to spend a lot of time in our room watching television. The room was clean and the bathroom was small but sparkling clean( the towels could be bigger though).
The breakfast was standard continental fare, yoghurt, breakfast cereal, croissant, bread, cheese and coffee.
I used the computer in reception (1euro for10mins)
The big pluses are the very friendly staff and the great location. There are great places to eat nearby, the Metro is close and within walking distance oft he Eiffel Tower.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front for a view of Rue Cler - a wonderful street.

“Still good value after all these years”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

I've been staying here about once a year for about a decade now. It is a great value at under €100 per night for a double room and the location is unbeatable. Rue Cler has everything you could want in a classic French street and its shops and bistros are fantastic (esp Market Bistro for breakfast). So, I will keep returning. The rooms and bathroom are clean, the pillows comfortable (a welcome recent change). There is lots of refurbishing work going on currently and that's great. The negatives: The most unsettling thing that I don't recall from my last visit, is that I had to pay for my stay upon checking in, rather than upon checking out. I don't like that and I don't understand why that's necessary. It's not something I come across regularly during my travels. The rooms are small (which is normal for Paris hotels) and the decor is a bit dull, but who cares really. You don't come to Paris to hang out in the room (unless you're staying at the George V, but then you're not reading these reviews). The bathroom needs a couple of hooks and a glass shelf. A shelf in the shower would be handy as well. The wifi is spotty, so if you think you might need it for work, then this is not for you. If it's for social stuff, then fine.

“Good value for money -free Wi-Fi.”

Friendly staff! Room small but enough space to put bags in closet. Own bathroom. Clean. Daily room service good - clean towels etc. Extra pluses = best location! Can walk to the Eiffel tour in about 6 minutes. Metro near by ( one block). Whole street = eating places, flower shops, fruit and vegetable shops and great pastry shop. Wonderful night life - people happy and walking around. Very safe area. Super pluses = free Wi-Fi and elevator ( can only fit one person) but can take your bags up so don't have to carry them up many flights of stairs.

Room Tip: Room 38 was great - no road noise.
