Having re-read some earlier reviews I cannot imagine why we chose to stay at this hotel. In over 50 years travelling the world it rates as the second worst place (the worst was in Morocco) we have ever stayed. To be fair (as ever) there are some redeeeming qualities(see below) but in general terms it didn't even measure up to the two star rating it claims. To begin with the Rue Lourmel can be very noisy and, with no A/C, opening the window for air was unavoidable and extreme noise inducing. Our room was small and rather scruffy but the bathroom was even smaller than usual and was dreadful. The wall unit designed to retain the shower was broken, so showering was a hand held operation. In the other hand one had to hold the soap because the soap tray had been removed. And the wash line apparatus had also been vandalised. The sink plug was also missing- just as well because the plug release mechanism had also been rendered useless. The matresses on our twin beds were of dubious vintage and one in particular made some strange noises. On our first night we kept awake by neighbours until 0120! They eventually piped down with a little oral persuasion from me. But in complaining to reception staff the next day I was advised "next time" to telephone the front desk. But we had not seen a telephone in the room. It was eventually concluded that someone had stolen it and the staff had not noticed! Apparently a TV set had disappeared in similar circumstances a few days earlier.
But there were positive points. Our bathroom towels were replaced after the first night and the staff on the whole were pleasant enough (although we returned to find the front door locked on our first night out and had to ring the bell and wait at least five minutes to gain access). The location just off the Bvd. Grenelle is great for exploring the 15e arrondissement and visiting the Eiffel Tower and access to the riverboats. The price is also competitive. We paid Euros 80 a night (The Mercure, literally just aroung the corner in Grenelle, has a minimum charge for a double of Euros 220 + 20 for parking.) So if economy is vitally important it's probably worth considering but there are many other similarly priced hotels in the area which offer considerably more comfort.
