My one and only visit to the Crillion was almost a fairytale experience, suffering only from my lack of fluency in French. 30 years ago, pregnant and madly in love, the regal surroundings seemed the elevate the enchantment found so readily with Paris in the springtime. I almost expected Maurice Chevalier in the lounge but mon dieu! was not to be. In the heart of the Place de la Concorde, one can (and should) walk to every meaningful, storied venue in the immediate 'neighborhood' - an understated description of this part of the City.
Even then, the astounding history and architecture of the property spoke more clearly than the appointments in the room, which with very little effort, could have made the visit flawless. As it was, the service of the entire staff and the central location of this property recommends it -- at least once--on a visit to the City of Lights.
