Despite several negative reviews on TripAdvisor, I decided to give this hotel a try as I wanted a more central location than Porte de Clichy and the Holiday Inn Grands Boulevards was fully booked at a rate acceptable to my company.
Having stayed in several Holiday Inn hotels all over Europe I have never had a truly bad experience, and I'm pleased to say that I still haven't. This was however by far the most disappointing stay I've had.
Outwardly the hotel is very nice, especially the old fashioned style lift which is a nice touch. Unfortunately though once you get onto the actual bedroom floors, the decor slides quickly down hill. Corridors are dirty and dingy with old carpets, walls and room doors are heavily marked. Inside the rooms it doesn't get much better with walls marked, wallpaper peeling and filthy air conditioning vents almost hanging off the ceiling.
The air conditioning itself did not work properly, seeming to only have settings for hot or hotter. Given that the room was already baking hot on arrival, the only choice was to open a window for ventilation which meant allowing in the typical Paris noise that runs right through the night.
I booked on the "business pack" which promises free Wifi and TV. I had to haggle at the front desk to get the receptionist (who was rude both on this occasion and on check-in) to check the rate in order to get free Wifi, and when I asked about TV I was told that this simply was not the case even though I know for a fact (from the HI website) that this is explicitly mentioned in the rate description right alongside Wifi.
In summary I will not be using this hotel again, and would recommend others only to use it as a last resort as you can get much better in the surrounding area for the same price.
