“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

Despite several negative reviews on TripAdvisor, I decided to give this hotel a try as I wanted a more central location than Porte de Clichy and the Holiday Inn Grands Boulevards was fully booked at a rate acceptable to my company.

Having stayed in several Holiday Inn hotels all over Europe I have never had a truly bad experience, and I'm pleased to say that I still haven't. This was however by far the most disappointing stay I've had.

Outwardly the hotel is very nice, especially the old fashioned style lift which is a nice touch. Unfortunately though once you get onto the actual bedroom floors, the decor slides quickly down hill. Corridors are dirty and dingy with old carpets, walls and room doors are heavily marked. Inside the rooms it doesn't get much better with walls marked, wallpaper peeling and filthy air conditioning vents almost hanging off the ceiling.

The air conditioning itself did not work properly, seeming to only have settings for hot or hotter. Given that the room was already baking hot on arrival, the only choice was to open a window for ventilation which meant allowing in the typical Paris noise that runs right through the night.

I booked on the "business pack" which promises free Wifi and TV. I had to haggle at the front desk to get the receptionist (who was rude both on this occasion and on check-in) to check the rate in order to get free Wifi, and when I asked about TV I was told that this simply was not the case even though I know for a fact (from the HI website) that this is explicitly mentioned in the rate description right alongside Wifi.

In summary I will not be using this hotel again, and would recommend others only to use it as a last resort as you can get much better in the surrounding area for the same price.

“Hit and miss regarding bed bugs!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

My son and I stayed twice in August 2011. Our first one-night stay, we had a lovely room, but I discovered that there were bed bugs in the duvet. I had bites all over the lower upper part of my legs. The lady at the front desk didn't seem perturbed to hear of this. Since I knew that we'd be returning to the hotel after our séjour in Belgium, I expressed my hope that our next room would be bug-free.
When we returned, our room was a pitiful one in terms of decor. The air-conditioning unit above the hall was leaking water continuously, so there was a damp spot on the carpet. Although the room was very old and dingy, the beds did NOT have bed bugs, so we didn't complain!
The location is great, as long as you go to the right as you leave the hotel. If you head to the left, the neighbourhood seems to have a lot of unemployed men standing around in groups of 2 to 3 on the sidewalk. Doesn't feel as safe. The area to the right, as you leave the hotel, is bustling with restaurants.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has been remodelled.

“Very good city hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

The hotel is set in a quiet street but very near to plenty of restaurants, shops, things to see and the Metro. The room and ensuite bathroom was spacious for an inner city hotel, quiet and well equipped and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was a little expensive and sligtly limited in choice compared with the best buffets but the breakfast room itself was very elegant. Lift was a bit small and the decor in parts of the hotel and the room were slightly dated. Service was efficient and friendly and English spoken. Overall a very good hotel and would certainly stay again when in Paris.

“Not nice”

This hotel is very well situated, but .... please renovate this hotel as soon as possible. I am sure it used to be a nice hotel in the past, and it is a shame how shabby it is now. And the elevator ....OMG! You got the feeling it would brake down any minute. The doors to my room were missing security lock, and I was never sure whether the door was locked or not.
I asked for a room at 5th floor after reading reviews here on Tripadvisor about noice in lower levels and I didn´t hear any noice at all. The staff was very nice people and helpful.
My colleague stayed at another Holiday Inn, only 5 min walking distance, the Holiday Inn-Grand Boulevards, and it was much nicer, recently renovated and better located.

“Perfect location for first visit!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

I loved everything about this hotel. They spoke English, which was important to me, and they were very helpful in answering questions. The elevator is tiny (only fits 5 people and carries 375kg), but it was fine for me. It's close to the metro, a food stand, grocery store, a McDonalds and tons of other cafés. I was there for 7 days and had no problems doing what I went to Paris to do: see the city. It was a 10 min ride to the Eiffel Tower on the metro, and took even less time to go everywhere else. It was a great experience and I would stay there again- my needs for a hotel were met.

Room Tip: Research how the metro works before you go. Yes this hotel is close to the metro, but it can be conf...
