We stayed here in July 2006 during what seemed to be a bit of a heatwave in Paris. Upwards of 32 degrees celsius everyday of our 7 day stay in Paris and this hotel saved our trip to Paris! We had initially stayed at another hotel in the Republique area which proved to be very noisy, hot and small. We weren't getting any sleep and after 2 nights we decided to move hotels. We went to the tourist information centre near the station "Pyramides" and asked if they could find us a hotel with air-conditioning. They were very helpful and found this Best Western for us. It saved our holiday. We got a great rate, possibly because we were booking on the same day we were staying there. I think the rooms are usually around 90 Euro a night and we got ours for 45 Euro a night. We stayed 5 nights and an additional night a few days later when we came back through Paris.
The hotel is situated right at Gare De L'Est...in the same building really. So it is very handy to transport. We were travelling around on the metro all the time so it was great for us and only a stop away from Gare du Nord if you are travelling via Eurostar. The hotel is set back off the street a bit so traffic noise never bothered us. You can hear the trains rumbling nearby but they didn't bother us and stop around midnight anyway. There was some construction work going on around the building during the day but stopped in the evening so not a problem either. The rooms are air-conditioned but you can still open the window if you prefer. Our first room was quite big with everything you'd expect in a basic hotel. Mini-bar with beer and softdrinks (the mini-bar in our first hotel was "switched off for the summer because of the heat"!?!?!?!), television with french channels, a German channel, and a couple of English channels...mostly with news and sport. Both rooms had a bath with shower over it. There was a wardrobe, luggage rack, chair, desk space. There was a hairdryer in both rooms but no tea or coffee making facilities. I don't remember if there was an iron or ironing board though. It was very comfortable during the hot weather.
There is a lift from the entrance up to the second level lobby which houses reception and a bar area. The staff were excellent, really friendly. We tried our very basic French out on them and they were happy to speak English if we didn't understand. They were all very good. They greeted with us happily every single time we arrived or left the hotel. My partner was unwell at one stage and the reception happily called a doctor to come to the hotel for us. They were also helpful with faxes. The rooms were clean and in good shape. We really enjoyed our stay here. It is fancy but it is modern and newish looking.
There are lots of cafes and restaurants around for food so we didn't eat at the hotel except for one breakfast which we had sent to the room. A standard sort of breakfast for Paris I think, tea or coffee, juice, croissant, bread, jam. Just what we needed before wandering around Paris all day.
This place was really great and we would definitely stay there again, especially if it is in the middle of a heat wave!
