“Eh...i don't think you can win anywhere in Paris without serious money”

If you aren't willing to shell out the dough to stay at the King George V, then you're going to have a similar experience just about anywhere. This particular hotel has close to no charm, its cramped, and it cannot possibly accommodate simple requests. Having said that, thats not a problem with the hotel, its a problem with the destination. After staying in hotels of 2 and 3 star caliber all over europe, its quite remarkable how extremely dated everything is. It has you wishing sometimes that there was a Holiday Inn express somewhere...i mean...if nothing is going to have service or standards, you may as well have something corporate roll through and do it right. I booked a double room at this hotel, which in France means a king size bed for you and your same gender friend to share. If you ask for 2 beds they either don't understand you...which is not their fault at all btw...or they just don't offer it. I took the stairs because i'm not all about questionable elevators anywhere.
The room is cramped, old, and expensive for what you get. To its credit, its a very secure hotel, the view of the eiffel tower looking out the window to the right is to die for...and the irish pub across the street was a lot of fun. The hotel receptionist takes your key when you leave at night and lets you in when you come back...so security is comfortable. I'd recommend staying here for couples who are on a budget. I wouldn't if you're a guy who doesn't like to share queen sized beds with other guys.

“Terrific location, but....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2011

Check the room first to see if it up to your standards. The location is superb, the hotel is clean and the staff is friendly. Our room was so hot we had to open the windows to cool it down. The bathroom door would not operate properly so modesty was thrown to the wolves. The elevator will not work if the gate is open on the ground floor and the night clerk has no interest in making sure it was closed. My spouse described it as rustic which means the very concept on maintenance probably faded during the war (II I am sure, but I would not be surprised at I). I did not notice AC, so I would hesitate to stay here in warmer weather. Overall it was fine, but with quirks.

“run, baby, RUN!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2010

We are not trying to be mean and we are not over exagerating. Imagine staying in a room for 5 nights with no air condition during the summer nor any form of ventilation except your window in chich you must find ways of closing it since everyone could peer into your room, I doubt this is a good place to stay. The double beds are basically two single beds merged into one. The wallpaper is tacky with olden rose petals designs and the floor is somewhat old and worn. Though the bathroom is clean there is hardly any room in the hotel and the service at the reception is horrid. We stayed on as we have paid or else we would have ran once we saw the place. It was just terrible.

“Great hotel located close to everything - excellent choice for foreigners”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2010

This hotel was great. It was located right near the Effiel tower in Invalides. The staff were fantastic and very very helpful. If you are an American in Paris this is a great choice since the staff will help you figure out everything you need. They are very patient and polite. But, watch out for the beds. A single bed isn't that bad, but if you get a double you better becareful. Basically, a double at this hotel are two single beds pushed together with some type of blanket down the middle. This wouldn't be so bad if the beds were the same height. When I ever i turned over while asleep, i would roll down into the other bed!!

“You can do much better for a lower price”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2010

At the end of our trip to Nice, Arles, Carcassonne, Sarlat, St. Emilion, Mt. St. Michel, LaRochelle, Bayeux and Versailles, we arrived in Paris and H. St. Dominique which was recommended by Rick Steves. The staff are very good. The hotel is awful. The first room we were shown had a very slanted floor. While my spouse parked the car, I was shown another room in another building which was much worse. Then the 3d was somewhat better, and being tired after a long trip, we accepted it. The rug needed replacement (worn through), there was barely room to get around the bed (inches), the toilet seat was wobbly, and the hair dryer tube kept falling out of the wall receptacle. I did not have my laptop otherwise we would have left.
