“Brill for a cheap few days.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I decided to treat my girlfriend to a trip to paris for xmas, we had done plenty of planning, and feel we had the "full paris experience".... The hotel is petit and on the outskirts, but everything is within a 20 min metro journey, and the nearest metro was a 30 second walk from the front door of the hotel.... You may hear that it is in a run down area, etc.... but for the money you pay, you get what you pay for, and we had experienced worse areas during our travels. i didnt once feel that we were ever at threat and i remember walking down to the mcdonalds (2 minutes walk) at around 11pm, and it was fine. It is the Perfect base for your own paris experience, we left at 8 am every morning , and returned around 9, 10 pm every night, the staff were welcoming and helpful with helping us arrange our taxis etc. If you want a cheap weekend, and a short break, armstrong is more then suitable. You get what you pay for. Trip was in March 2011.

Room Tip: Most rooms are the same from what i understand.

“Nightmare!”

Why is the hotel armstrong even on your recommendation list? I have just returned from Paris. I was thinking i'd have a cheap last minute weekend away...but it turned out to be a disaster that cost me far much more than expected. For a 2* hotel I wasn't expecting much, but our room was shocking!! Not only was there no lock on our door, but the room was like a box, walls were paper thin (we could hear word for word the conversation of the people next door) the bathroom seemed filthy, there were no tea facilities or hairdryer like stated in the itinery...There was also certain white stains over the bed spread which was unbelievably disgusting!! Also the area was so dodgy, there was rubbish all over the streets and intimidating homeless people everywhere. This meant we had to check out and find somewhere else to stay for the two nights costing us an unexpected 182.00 euros. We will definately not be booking through you again if these are the kind of conditions you're happy to recommend to your customers.

Room Tip: One tip...find somewhere else closer to the centre.

“Smelled like a sewer”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

The worst part of our stay at Hotel Armstrong was that the bathroom smelled like a sewer the whole time we were there. I wasn't sure if it was due to a plumbing problem or lack of cleanliness, but it made us feel incredibly uneasy about our stay right from the beginning. In addition, only two very small bath towels were hanging in the bathroom and when I asked for another towel we were grudgingly issued a third one on which to dry our hands - and then we were told that was absolutely the max number of towels we could have.

As many reviewers have stated, this hotel is not in a great part of town. However, I saw several families and single women walking in the area, so it can't be completely unsafe, but we made a point to be inside well before dark.

The young man working the front desk on the morning we checked out was incredibly helpful. However, during the rest of our stay the staff was decidedly indifferent and cold.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms at this hotel if at all possible.

“Nice hotel, terrible area.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

The amount of mixed reviews on here is crazy. The hotel itself is fairly nice, well decorated, clean, and the staff seemed friendly enough. The room was fairly small, but clean, and comfortable enough, although the thin walls were extremely annoying when you have to listen to other people talking or showering during the night.
The surrounding area however, pretty much ruins the experience. The closeness of the metro is the only good thing, but even then we never really felt safe walking there. There are homeless everywhere, crap(literal) on the pavements, people looking through trash, or trying to sell you stuff on the streets, and we were even obviously followed by two men... if we hadn't got to the main road we would have probably been mugged. And this is only during the day. We avoided staying out too late as it was evident it would be even less safe.
So, I would not recommend staying here, solely based on the terrible location. The hotel is perfectly fine, and it's very good value, but I can see now see why.
Pay extra and book a hotel nearer the centre so your experience of Paris isn't ruined as well.

“Don't believe everything you read!”

I stayed at this hotel for a work trip for 3 nights last week. I was with five colleagues (all female). Some of the group had read the reviews here on tripadvisor before we travelled ( the hotel was booked by another party on our behalf) and by the time we arrived we expected the worse. However, I have to say that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The hotel is extremely clean, the staff are very friendly, helpful and efficient and the area is fine. The breakfast was good value and the drinks at the bar were reasonably priced. The hotel also provides free internet access, which was a great bonus. We went to a lovely restaurant nearby. The metro station, which is a two minute walk from the hotel gets you into the centre of Paris in 10-15minutes. There is also lots to see and do in the local area. I thought that it was such good value that I will be staying there again.
