I stayed in Chamonix Hotel for 4 nights in past October with my mother and my brother. I made my choice for this hotel basicaly because of the price and the good reviews at Tripadvisor and Booking.com, and also because of the proximity from Bonne Bouvelle Metro Station. My decision was based also on the travelers's photos posted here in Tripadvisor, since it seemed a nice hotel with clean rooms and bathrooms.
The location is not a great one, for a first time tourist travel to Paris, since the hotel is not on the proximity from the touristic spots. But we could reach all places in Paris using the metro system and the Bonne Nouvelle Station just some steps from the hotel.
I liked my stay at Hotel Chamonix very much, because it totally met my expectations. In fact, I was even impressed by the big room, a rare thing in Paris, and by the breakfeast, since in my thoughts I expected a more restricted "petit-dejeneur" in a Paris Hotel (I thought it would be really "petit", but the buffet was quite the opposite).
The sleep quality was also very good, even the room being in the first floor and windows to front street. The only thing I heard sometimes in the middle of the nigth was some train sound, since I think the RER B and RER D lines pass near the hotel location.
The staff was very helpful, specially the lady at the reception desk in the mornings, who gave us valuable touristic information about the city.
The only negative point about Hotel Chamonix was one of the staff personel, who attended the reception desk during two nigths. I don't know his name, but it was a young man who was extremely impatient and even rude one night I needed assistance with the AC/Heating system. In fact, it was somewhat cold outside at night, but I don't know for what reason, when we came back to the hotel at night after a day out, our room was EXTREMELY hot, and we just wanted to turn on the A/C in the cold cycle for 5 or 10 minutes to put the temperature a little down. But the A/C didn't worked in the cold cycle, and coundn't even be turned on. I went down to explain the situation, but I couldn't express myself in full French, and so I used also some English to explain him. He simply ignored me, and didn't offered any solution, saying (in a perfect English) that he couldn't undersand me, because it was very difficult...Of course he understood, but did not want to speak other language than French. I don't speak English as a mother language either, but I never had any problem to understand or being understood in speaking, reading or listening to English, even in non English speaking Countries.... This was the total stereotypical Frenchman.... A pity for a very good hotel in Paris...
