“Good value, appartment style”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2008

My husband and I stayed 8 nights at citadines maine montparnasse. I've been to this appart'hotel before (in 2000), and at that time, the appartment were beautiful and very comfy and had all you needed (little kitchen, nice little table, etc.) but I didn't know how the rooms would be now in 2008. So before booking, I read the reviews in tripadvisor and frankly, I got a little scared but i took the risk and wanted to believe that the good experience i had in 2000 would repeat itself. So i booked a 2 person studio with a sofa bed. At our arrival, my husband and I were given a court view room which was quiet and had a nice view (you could see the panthéon). The decoration of the room is a little "old", not very modern. The carpet is a little too colorful but overall, the room had space. The bathroom was OK. Feels at home, you can buy food and warm it it in the microwave. Good alternative when you don't want to spend 50 euros on a meal! It's comfy but not luxury. It's a hotel for people who wanna have a comfy appartment in Paris, WELL LOCATED (you can come back at 2 am very safely!). But it's not a hotel for people who want luxury rooms and room service! It bothered me to have to pay 7 euros to change the towels!!! I'd rather pay a little more for a hotel room and have my towels changed everyday and have my room cleaned everyday! Here, not the case. Overall, it's OK. Not superb, but well enough for the price. I don't know if I would go again. I liked it better in 2000.

  • Liked — the location, the "at home" feel
  • Disliked — the cleanliness, the fact that you had to pay to change towels and have a clean room

“Citadines Apart'hotel Maine Montparnasse”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 March 2008

The hotel was very nice. Very good facilities if you want an inexpensive stay in Paris (your own cooker, pots, pans, cuttlery, TV, Stereo). Near to Montparnasse and Geite Metro station.
Room is only cleaned once a week but there are laundry facilities on site. Room was a bit small but cosy. However, it was clean and had everything you wanted for a short stay!
I would most defintely go back!

  • Liked — Ideal location fo get to other places!
  • Disliked — The fact that the room wasn't cleaned on a daily basis.

“Gives the chain a bad name”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2007

I am familiar with Citadines and know them as clean, safe, convenient and efficient, if a little unimaginative, semi-hotels with the benefit of a kitchenette, in convenient locations - just what I was after on a recent week-end visit to Paris with my baby daughter. We were spending most of our time with friends who live in that area and so location was non-negotiable. Alas, the Maine-Montparnasse branch was deeply disappointing - really not worthy of the brand. The room at under 25 square m was too small for us to spend any time in, and the furniture was exceptionally drab and tired looking - tobacco-stained wallpaper and smelly grey net curtains, and a very shabby little kitchen. The baby bed I'd requested was a fold-up cot left in the corner - I realised later the reason they'd not assemled it was because there really was nowhere to put it. No sign of the highchair I'd asked for; probably for the same reason. So much for the "baby facilities" advertised. Worst of all was the overpowering smell of tobacco smoke - like very old carpeted pubs in the really bad old days. As an ex-smoker I have a fairly high tolerance of smokey smells but this was bad enough to be unhealthy. An entire can of odour remover didn't make any difference - even the wallpaper stank. Combined with the incessant traffic noise from the very busy 4-lane road on which this apart-hotel is located, which made it unfeasible to leave windows open, it was totally impossible for us to get any sleep. To their credit, staff was very friendly and they did try to find us a quiter room at the back of the hotel (though my request for a non-smoking room was met with barely-concealed derision - we were in france after all) and when I decided to leave after one night with a very grizzly baby on my arm my remaining booking was cancelled with no fuss. Found a perfectly charming quiet little hotel a few streets away where rooms cost the same and were infinitely more pleasant. Definitely not recommended; and especially not at nearly euro150 a night.

  • Liked — Easy to get to
  • Disliked — Room was small, stank of tobacco smoke and was very noisy

“Dreadful hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2005

Here are some things you should know about this "apartment-style'' hotel:
1. There is no housekeeping, if you stay less than a week.
2. There is no bed -- only an uncomfortable fold-out couch, which takes up the whole room.
3. The room smells intensely moldy.
4. There is no air-conditioning.
5. The elevator got stuck twice in our four day stay.

Granted, the staff is pleasant, as is the tiny garden at the back.
But even so, it was the most unpleasant hotel I've ever stayed at in a developed country.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2004

people found this review helpful

I stayed here a weekend in October 2004 and was very disappointed. I'd visited the Citadines St Germain and loved it -- very clean and modern. But the Maine-Montparnasse is not in the same league. The lobby is sad, the lifts didn't work part of the time and my room (studio) had a horrible smell of sweat. Plus the bed wasn't easy to work out and was supposed to be on casters but wasn't.

The location was good though. And it is nice to have a kitchen while away.

Overall, the hotel was ok but disappointing.
