“Give it a miss”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2007

We stayed there in September.

Room was tiny- smelt of strong disinfectant. Booked a twin room..beds were so close together you could feel the other persons breath on your neck!

Bathroom was so small I struggle to think how a man would use it. The sink was so close to the toilet you could barely stand up.

The bathmat was left in the shower and was soaking wet.

Location was ok- but the hotel terrible. Defintely find another hotel to stay in Paris

“Like Hell without the Sulphur”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2007

My fiance and I were meant to stay at the Husa Grand Montmartre for 3 nights, however we had such a horrible time, there was no way we could stay longer than 1. When we originally got the the hotel, only one person on staff could speak English - which was suprising as alot of English speaking tourists do travel to Paris. We were booked in and were shown the lift which was very rickety and scary to travel in. When we got to our room, we found something you'd compare to a shoebox - there was very little room to get around each side of the bed. The lino on the floor was very old, torn and crumbling which did seem odd. The bathroom was pleasant, and I think that was the only good thing about the room. The bed was like sleeping on a rock, and gave us neck and back cramps. The next day as we were preparing to go out, we noticed there was alot of black powder on the floor. As I was in the bathroom, my fiance saw that the air con was actually spitting out ash or something very similar. Needless to say we got out of there pretty quick and found ourselves another hotel that proved to be the godsend of our trip.

“tiny but sufficient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2007

Husa Grand Hotel was basic but well met my needs for a 3 night stay in Paris.

The rooms were very small, with basically only room for the bed. i was staying alone, but i imagine that having 2 people in the room would have been squashy. the bathroom was fairly new and everything worked fine.

i couldn't believe how quiet the rooms were, especially as the hotel is located so close to the Moulin Rouge area. It is definitely far enough away from this 'red light' district though, there is only one section of overt 'sex shops', then the rest of the area is nice restaurants bakeries and shops. It's also within easy walking distance of the Montmatre area, which has divine little clothes shops and deli's etc.

there was no mini bar, and the fridge wasn't working and they didn't fix it even after i asked. there is a TV in the room but no channels with English or English subtitles. it was amusing watching Grey's Anatomy with French voiceovers though!

The complimentary buffet breakfast was lovely and very French - croissants, paine croissants, and a selection of other cold meats and cheeses.

the staff spoke English well, and although not overly friendly (like most Parisians i found) they were helpful with transport and other local enquiries. the metro lines were only one block away, and i found the bus services to the Eiffel tower and the Louvre were cheap and easy.

the weather while i was there was rainy but mild still, just make sure you pack an umbrella because to buy one wasn't cheap!

  • Liked — definitely breakfast, even the room was gorgeous!
  • Disliked — everything was tiny (but definitley comfortable still)

“Perfect”

Great location, we walked all over Paris from here with ease. Close enough to the metro as well for further locations and when raining!

Other people mentionned the "red light district". It's true, but we (2 women) never felt threatened or unsafe in any way.

The hotel was clean and quiet, exactly what we were looking for. Great showers too!

Highly recommended!

  • Liked — location, staff, room, the cleanliness and the breakfast!
  • Disliked — The coffee wasn't hot and the toaster was really slow, but such minor issues!

“a nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 April 2007

it was a nice hotel, just with the 10 min or less walking distance from metro (you can choose between either Place Clichy or Blache). Moulin Rouge is also close, but not on the next corner. the hotel is located in the absolutely "no fear" district, nice, and not noisy at all. If you walk further direction Sacre Couer, you can get to the "love area", but it is not smth different as in any big European cities. Good bars, Kebabs, restaurants. So, the hotel was an old one, a small but a cosy one. It was absolutely clean! excellent. the breakfast was ok, only the coffee was from the coffee maschine with some comic taste. You can really eat a lot, from croissant to cheese, ham, every day it was smthing new. we liked it.
