“average aparthotel close to Pigalle”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

The Citadines Montmartre is not upgraded yet as is Citadines Les Halles, so the interior is a bit old fashioned, but not shabby. The bed is comfy, bathroom, kitchen, flatscreen tv, everything is there. No wifi in the room, but free cable connection. Breakfast 14 E. Nice restaurants opposite the hotel and a metro station around the corner (Blanche). The rooms at the backside are overlooking the Cimétière de Paris (worth visiting); so it is more quiet at that side. I would not stay here for a romantic weekend, but fore me, travelling for business, it was OK.

“Do not waste your money, find something better for this value”

I am writing this review right at the hotel, so that I will not miss none of the problems I must report to the world. Althought the localization is really good (very near to Montmartre attractions, but on a quiet street, and no problem regarding public transportation), and the apartment is reasonable, there are great problems with this property.

There are two elevators: when we arrived yesterday one was out of order, with a single notice attached to the door apologizing for the inconvenience. We have just arrived (now it is Saturday night) from a busy day walking by Paris, feet hurting, and had a gift - the other lift was out of order, and all we got from the girl at reception was a ´unfortunately you will have to go upstairs on foot until the maintenance arrives´. When? ´Tomorrow...´

DO NOT BELIEVE in what is written about WiFi access at their site and their descriptions spread out on the various reservation sites. You DO NOT HAVE WiFi access at the rooms, just the old RJ-45 cable. If you are a XXI century user of your tablet, smartphone, netbook or any equipment that only has wireless connection, you will have to go downstairs, at the lobby, where there are only TWO chairs for sitting while you try to navigate. Not enough? People here are inventive! For each access you have only ONE HOUR of wireless connection, and you have to renew it and keep changing your id and password for each new connection. And because it is just one access point for the whole crowd that concentrates at the lobby, you can imagine the quality of the connection... That is, wireless here is projected NOT TO BE USED by normal people.

Well, now it is time to talk about washing facilities, that is, W.C. and bathroom. WC is the first thing you see when you open the apartment´s door - it is there, alone, on a closed cubicle. You then cross the kitchen, and come to the bedroom, which has an adjoining bathroom (sink, tub and "shower").

The referred cubicle is the WC alone, with no washing facilities whatsoever. That means, after you are done with it, to wash anything as simple as your hands, you have to cross the kitchen, the bedroom and arrive at the bathroom.

A paradox - while the WC has an exhaust fan that does not work, the bathroom has another fan that works 24 hours a day, very noisy by the way. So even if you close the door of the bathroom, the noise does not disappear and you have that sensation that you are sleeping on a transatlantic plane.

And if nature calls you during the night, you have to remember not to go to the bathroom that is right besides your bed - you have to cross the whole apartment to perform your duty, return, go to the bedroom to wash yourself, and then return to bed. A war operation.

Now, it is time to talk about the ´shower´. You can have a cold shower at the bathroom, but they have a rather ingenious device on the tap if you want to use hot water. As soon as you start turning the tap lever to the hot water position, automatically the flow of water diminishes at the same proportion. That is, if you want to bathe at a decent temperature using the shower, you have to take a ´drops´, not a shower.

Also, the tub is very dangerous - it has no rough surface or mat where you can stand safely while bathing using the ´shower´. Also, the glass wall that separates the tub from the rest of the bathroom is not fixed - if you need to use it as a support in case of an accidental sliding (that happened to me), it will contribute to your fall!

The worst thing is, if you book by their site as this dummy here did, they have already charged your credit card for the whole period, and the only option they give to you is loose your money. Of course you can always try a lawyer, police or something similar, that will spoil your vacation, which was not my option, and because of this I think the best way is to tell the others about this authentic trap.

Goodbye, for all my life, Citadines and Ascott chains. First and last time I have stayed in a hotel of yours.

“Closest thing to home in Paris”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

We choose this hotel for our family trip to Paris in September 2011 on ratings and reviews it got and generally it lived up to expectations.

Stayed in 1 bedroom apartment on top floor.

Pros: Location in a quiet street with easy access to central part via Metro (station Clichy); A nice terrace for breakfast or evening glass of wine; Fully equipped kitchen for cooking sea food and fish our style; Good choice of restaurants close by (Wepler and Leon specially recommended); Helpful staff

Cons: The carpet was in need of cleaning with bad smell if the air con was off; Frying pan with Teflon coating badly scratched

Room Tip: Top floor apartments have nice terrace

“Comfortable but expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

Had a 1 night stay at the citadines which cost 239 Euro which I feel is to expensive for what was on offer! I arrived half an hour after the check in time and the appartment was not ready so I had to wait a further half hour before I could get in the appartment. The apartment however was clean and comfortable with kitchen fridge microwave and other cooking facilities. There was a double bed and a pull out sofa in the living room. The hotel itself is in a quiet street but Just around the corner there are a lot of strip clubs and lap dancing bars so probably not the best location for families.

“Location, Comfort, Price... This Citadine has it all.”

Tucked away on a little side street adjacent to the intersection of Rue Caulaincourt and Boulevard de Clichy, this gem of a hotel is a great place to stay for your first visit in Paris. Reasonably priced (my wife and I paid €800 for a 7 night stay, it is within very easy walking distance of all of the sites, sounds and aromas of Montmartre. We found the staff to be pleasant, patient with those trying to communicate through broken French, and more than willing to offer courteous assistance in English. Service is available 24 hours in both French and English from the lobby desk, on either side of which lie the hotel breakfast buffet and a small business centre with two computers and a printer. Our room, typical of those in this "Apart'hotel" featured a spacious kitchenette with fridge, hot plate and cupboards fully stocked with dishes, flat and glassware. The kitchenette and the room as a whole were sparkling clean. A big flat screen tv, radio and internet connection were welcome, although little used during our stay with all of Paris beckoning from the window. The large shower and sink area was directly beside the bedroom, with the toilet in a separate small room on the far side of the kitchenette - a very nice arrangement for those couples consisting of an early riser and a partner who prefers to sleep in.
The beautiful Boulevard de Clichy is a hop, skip and a jump from the front door, and offers a wonderful central promenade for a leisurely stroll. There, you will find the Metro only few minutes away, allowing guests of the hotel to be on the train and headed off to explore the rest of Paris within moments of leaving the front door. If you're looking to explore the neighborhood around the hotel, the Cemetery of Montmartre is at the doorstep and features a unique experience for those accustomed to sprawling suburban burial places. More excitingly, you can find the Moulin Rouge only a five minute walk along the Boulevard de Clichy, along with countless cafes, bakeries and small shops lining tributary streets. The Basilica de Sacre Coeur and the narrow cobblestone streets of the hill itself are only a little further.
In all, this is a great place to stay for those with middle class tastes. The local is phenomenal, the comfort excellent and the price exceptional. My wife and I loved it so much, that we'll be staying there again next year.

Room Tip: If possible, avoid a room facing onto Rue Rachel. This quiet little street has a few cafes and can...
