“old and ugly”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

This is outdated hotel with much overpriced rooms. As the lobby still looks ok, the elevators are already very dirty, rooms must be 100years old, ceilings are falling apart, the heating does not work very well (they added an old electric heater in my room to bring temp up to 21 deg), room was very poorly lit which made it hard to work behind a computer (no lamp on the table, no light on the ceiling). The staff was friendly.
Breakfast room is very very small (cca 6 tables) and it happens that you must have a breakfast at the bar?!
I would not recommend this hotel to anybody.

“Great Location, Small Room”

This place was in a perfect location. It was in a quiet area but very close to many restaurants, Arc de Triomphe and the subway. The hotel room was nice but small (for US Standards) and had no view. Bathroom was nice but small. Overall I think it was a good place for the money.

“Great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

We visited France for the First time this January. We chose this hotel with the help of an online travel site comparator. We also read tripadvisor members' mostly positive reviews. We were concerned at first about its main dining area being renovated. We checked into the lobby and the building activity was out of sight. It was inaudible to in the 7th floor where we stayed. We arrived from the airport early and our room was not available when we checked-in. They held our luggage for us and we ventured out to get lunch. The hotel itself is a couple of blocks from the Arc, a monument in the middle of a roundabout that branches out into different avenues including the Champs Elysees. There are lots of restaurants and shops in this area. The room that we stayed in was surprisingly bigger than what was described in the reviews (It was the "I love Chocolate" suite"). There was a walk-out balcony with a street view. At night, a 3rd of the Eiffel tower was visible. The bathroom was separate from the bedroom. A tub was also separate from the shower room. A second balcony can be accessed from the bathroom. There is also an electric outlet that can accommodate your autovolt electronic gadgets. Its nice to bring a couple more outlet adapter so you can charge multiple phones, cameras and laptop or just bring a multi-outlet extension cord/power strip. Sheets and covers smelled clean and was very comfortable. There is a fridge/bar stocked with wine and snacks. Check the price before consuming even if an item is set outside. They set small bottles of Evian on the night table thinking it was complimentary but on check out it was in our bill and cost us 15 euros for two. Did not do room service, there are so many tasty alternatives around the area. WiFi on the 7th floor did not work for us despite pointing it out early to the concierge. WiFi in the lobby is pretty fast and free. You need to ask for an access code to connect.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room pick the topmost floor. If you need WiFi, pick the lower ones

“This pains me to write”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

I've stayed in the Sofitel in Lisbon Bora Bora LA London so I am very experienced with what to expect from them. I walked into room 519 and would say a Holiday Inn was nicer. This was by far the worst room I've ever seen from a Sofitel. It was old and I am not talking the building I am talking the decor. The giant machine on the wall blow dryer that didnt work. The 1980's speaker phone in the bath room that didnt work. The AC that didnt work well and I can go on and on. So that evening I called the front desk to speak to a manager about it. They said no manager on duty in was 730. So I went to Sofitel.com and wanted to write a complaint. It asked for my itinerary # I didnt have it so I called the front desk. They said you already in the hotel why do you need it. I said to write a complaint. They said ok call you back in 5 with it. 15 went by I called them. They said its on its way up. Another 15 went by so I called back and demanded the managers voice mail. They said ok I will transfer you. Then hung up on me. The next day I was eating breakfast the guest relations manager came up to me and said I understand you wanted to talk to me. This lady was 100% what I WOULD expect from SOFITEL. She heard me out and even agreed about the roon being not worthy of Sofitel and explained they were under going a remodel. I then kindly explained that doesnt help me and my $350 a night room. She upgraded me to a suite. Which was nicer but still no where near a SOFITEL standards. I never heard back from Sofitel.com sad. I would have to say I wouldnt recommend staying here even at $200 a night. The front door opens direct to the street no valet and no parking for cabs so you have to walk to get a cab or they will call one but theres a sur charge from the cab for them calling and them driving to the hotel ya funny huh. One time it was 3 the next night the Cab tried to say 7 I said stop got out flagged a cab and got to where I was going for 6.60. So Sofitel you feel way off your standards with this hotel sorry to say. With a good note the concierge picked 3 places for us to go to dinner and WOW he hit all 3 home runs. Great job guy. One last thing Construction starts at 9am exactly and its loud. So if you like to sleep in DO NOT STAY HERE

“It's OK - but only just...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

I chose this hotel only because of its location - convenient for my meetings. My general experience of the Sofitel hotels is good so it was with a certain expectation I booked this hotel at an absolutely fair rate.

What's wrong then?

Well, there is nothing wrong as such. The check-in is smooth and the lobby looks nice in a rather old fashioned way. The rooms, however, appear to be a little tirred and due for a refurbishment. Although I booked a non-smoking room the air quality when entering the room was unpleasant. To add to this there even was a distinct odeur from the bathroom drainage.

I never managed to switch off all light in the room when trying to sleep whick of course is unacceptable. And in trying too swith off the light I even discovered a broken lamp just repairred with some gaffa tape.

I understand that the hotel restaurant is currently being renovated and I strongly hope that this is just a beginning and that the rooms will follow.

Will I stay there again? Possibly - because despite my disappointments I still like the ambience and the people - and of course the location i good.
