After wrapping up a business project in Marseille, my manager and I had 2 days to get to Paris and do some sightseeing. A relative suggested this hotel, as they had stayed there many years ago. I really hate to ever leave negative reviews, but I must say, this hotel was not what we were expecting. It's very old and very shabby. First, it was a little hard to find. We arrived around noon, and they let us in our room, but the halls still had trash in them (cups, beer bottles, etc.) as well as our room. I think there is one cleaning lady for the whole hotel so progress is slow? The wallpaper was peeling off the walls, the beds were creaky, and the whole place had kind of a musty, old smell. The elevator was so small, I can't believe it was ever built. It was literally the size of a phone booth. One of us stayed in the lobby to send the luggage up in the elevator while the other walked up the stairs to retrieve them. They have a policy that if you leave, you must give your key to the front desk, and they will give it back to you upon your return. Thought that was odd. I saw one review online that compared this hotel to a hostel. I've only stayed in one hostel, in San Francisco, and that was actually a nice clean place, so I don't know if I can call this a hostel-like hotel. Each room has it's own bathroom, so that is better then a hostel at least. On the positive side, the woman at the front desk was very nice when we at first asked for a different room, and then again when we asked to cancel our reservation and move elsewhere (though we did have to pay for one night, understandably.) The rooms are very inexpensive (for Paris) and the location is pretty good...very near the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs Elysees. Free wi-fi was nice. When I returned and told the relatives who recommended this place that we did not care for it, they said there are rooms on the main floor which are better. So, if you do stay here, maybe request those.
