“Good value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

As I am traveling twice a month to Paris, I am always looking for good value 3 stars hotels. The Icone is well situated near blv Haussmann and nice cafes. The interior is oK and well designed. As business, breakfast is not included in the price. WIFI works really good and service is friendly. Had some pb with AMEX when I was there

“luxury in the heart of paris”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

I stayed here earlier this year and it was in a prime location in the middle of Paris. We were very impressed with the interior of the hotel - the room was spacious - mini bar and electronic safe. The bathroom was lovely a large shower cubicle and bath. All very clean and lots of fresh towels. When we stayed there was however scaffolding outside due to maintence work being carried out and so there wasnt much of a view out the window. Location was brilliant, however I do suggest taking a map with you as we did get lost trying to find our way to the hotel and around Paris. Also we found many of the people in the shops didnt speak very good english including taxi drivers so perhaps learn a little french!
Breakfast was very continental and buffet style and we were a little surprised to find it wasnt included in the price - thus being billed for it after we'd eaten. The staff however were friendly and gave us a map highlighting the major attractions and organised a shuttle bus back to the airport on our last day.
It was a pleasure to stay here - only down side was we only went for 2 nights wish it could have been longer!

“Wish the level of service was better.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

Location - Very convenient Metro stop just round the corner. Good selection of cafes and restaurants on the main street. Hotel entrance is in an alley, away from traffic noises.

Ambience - I believe its been newly refurbished and it does look funky. Many other reviews on other websites say it's corridors are dark and not properly lit ... but that's just because the lights are motion / sound activated. Implies good energy saving practice by management.

Room - Smaller than originally expected but that's Europe for you. Just wish that photos dipicted on hotel sites weren't quite so misleading. Bed was comfortable with no creaks or noises. Clean sheets, extra pillows in the wardrobe. My only complaint would be that the hotel specifically stated the all hotel rooms had air-conditioning but for the 2 nights we were there we had none. Hotel management handled our complaint rather poorly by saying there was nothing they could do to help us. THey suggested if we were hot we should just sleep with the windows open. But there was a pub or a private party downstairs that didn't shut until 3 am. So we didn't sleep very much for the entire duration of our stay ~ despite me trying to sleep with earplugs. The following night dump trucks were emptying garbage bins in the alley at like 3 - 4 am!!

Facilities - Lift to all floors, tv in room, clean bathroom (but damp stain on wall), shower screen did not close properly so water leaked out onto bathroom floor after each and every shower.

Service - Good housekeeping. Room was cleaned everyday. Saddened by fact that no assistance was given when we approached front desk about our aircond not working. Night staff told me there was nothing wrong with their A/C and that I may not be doing it right. Asked him to follow me to the room to take a look but he refused. Room was hot and had no ventilation so was forced to sleep with window open. Next day we asked the front desk again and was told that management had expected outside temps to be low this time of year so they have turned off the A/C centrally. So who is telling the truth??? I paid for a room with A/C facilities ... I believe I reserve the right to decide whether or not I want it on or off.

A little disconcerting that when we checked in the staff at the desk took down my credit card details and wrote it in an exercise book ~ and I mean ALL my card details!! Card number, 3-digit security code on the back, full name as printed on card and expiry date. I dunno if this is common practice but I don't think that its a very secure way of storing details of guests. And am pretty sure they shouldn't write down security codes along side all the other details! Suppose this book was misplaced or stolen???

“Clean, comfortable and great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

My friend and I stayed here for 3 nights during a "girls weekend" in Paris. We had a lovely time. The location was incredibly convenient - walking distance to the Opera (where the airport bus picks up and drops off) - and just steps to a metro stop. There were cute cafes and restaurants nearby, and we were able to walk to the Louvre, Montmartre, and other key locations. The room was of standard size compared to other European cities (although the bathroom was huge!), and it was exceptionally clean. The beds and linens were comfortable.
There was construction going on when we first arrived, but the scaffolding was removed the 2nd day, so I assume it's finished now. All of our interactions with the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel!

“BE AWARE if booking for more than two people”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

We booked and paid for a room to sleep 3 adults - a double and one single bed.
On arrival, the receptionist said that we would be charged an extra 45 euro per night for the single bed. We complained but were told that we would have to contact hotels.com and there was nothing they could do.
Hotels.com checked our booking details and agreed that the hotel was in the wrong but that we would have to pay the extra and then claim it back through them.
Spoilt our stay and I would not return in future to this hotel. Big rip off! Also, the room was on the 7th floor, in the eves and half the space was not useable as you had to bend down in order not to hit your head.
Apart from that ..... position of hotel was good and near metro.
