Location - Very convenient Metro stop just round the corner. Good selection of cafes and restaurants on the main street. Hotel entrance is in an alley, away from traffic noises.
Ambience - I believe its been newly refurbished and it does look funky. Many other reviews on other websites say it's corridors are dark and not properly lit ... but that's just because the lights are motion / sound activated. Implies good energy saving practice by management.
Room - Smaller than originally expected but that's Europe for you. Just wish that photos dipicted on hotel sites weren't quite so misleading. Bed was comfortable with no creaks or noises. Clean sheets, extra pillows in the wardrobe. My only complaint would be that the hotel specifically stated the all hotel rooms had air-conditioning but for the 2 nights we were there we had none. Hotel management handled our complaint rather poorly by saying there was nothing they could do to help us. THey suggested if we were hot we should just sleep with the windows open. But there was a pub or a private party downstairs that didn't shut until 3 am. So we didn't sleep very much for the entire duration of our stay ~ despite me trying to sleep with earplugs. The following night dump trucks were emptying garbage bins in the alley at like 3 - 4 am!!
Facilities - Lift to all floors, tv in room, clean bathroom (but damp stain on wall), shower screen did not close properly so water leaked out onto bathroom floor after each and every shower.
Service - Good housekeeping. Room was cleaned everyday. Saddened by fact that no assistance was given when we approached front desk about our aircond not working. Night staff told me there was nothing wrong with their A/C and that I may not be doing it right. Asked him to follow me to the room to take a look but he refused. Room was hot and had no ventilation so was forced to sleep with window open. Next day we asked the front desk again and was told that management had expected outside temps to be low this time of year so they have turned off the A/C centrally. So who is telling the truth??? I paid for a room with A/C facilities ... I believe I reserve the right to decide whether or not I want it on or off.
A little disconcerting that when we checked in the staff at the desk took down my credit card details and wrote it in an exercise book ~ and I mean ALL my card details!! Card number, 3-digit security code on the back, full name as printed on card and expiry date. I dunno if this is common practice but I don't think that its a very secure way of storing details of guests. And am pretty sure they shouldn't write down security codes along side all the other details! Suppose this book was misplaced or stolen???
