“IF YOU WANT TO FEEL IN A GIPSY CAMP, COME HERE!!!”

We arrived by car for a 2 nights stay with our tent. We were immediately approached by a guy who could speak English (no complaint about this). But then came the surprise. We booked online a 'tent space'....in reality it was a small area full of tents!!! We had 4 neighbours just 20cm from our tent!! Obviously people talking and minimal noise can wake you up being so cramped = no sleep the first night. Showers were good but after a good 5 min walk..

Good: Location, Reception
Bad: Tent space, bus service to the city only till midnight (who goes back so early in paris?)

Room Tip: Not a tent or at least tent with electricity service (better located)

“Pleasant”

We stayed in our rented campervan for 3 nights. When we first drove into Paris we got lost (again) and a kindly taxi driver was able to give us clear directions to the camping site. The staff at reception were courteous and helpful. We had a Paris Pass which included transport, so did not have to buy tickets for the provided shuttle bus, but our Pass did not include the shuttle, so w had to walk a short distance to catch a public bus, which took us to the Metro. There was a constant hum of traffic at the campsite but it was not disturbing to us. After walking around all day in Paris we were too tired to be bothered by any outside noise. The bathrooms were clean every time we used them, although the arrangements of outward opening doors was a little weird. This was an affordable alternative for accommodaton in Paris.

“This camp site is nearest to central Paris”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

I have stayed at camping du Bois de Bologne three times. The first time was with my son and we stayed for 9 days in a tent. We thoroughly enjoyed the holiday and the location of the camp site is only a single 10 minute bus trip from Port Maillot and the Metro to anywhere in Paris you care to visit. The tent pitches are not great. They are either hard gravel in a central area near the entrance surrounded by trees or hard baked earth on peripheral areas. On the two occasions when tenting there ( the second occasion was with my wife for a week) we enjoyed the friendliness of the other campers. The toilet blocks are adequate but at times the drains smell a bit. However, if you are well organised and can use a gas stove (we usually take two but have to purchase the gas cannisters when we arrive, this can be a problem if the camp site does not have the type of cannister that you require) you can save money by making your own evening meals as you sit by your tent. A couple of camping stools are also good items to take. There is a supermarket and hardware shop across the bridge over the Seine and there are also other useful small deli type supermarkets within walking distance from the site. This is definitely not the best camp site I have ever stayed at and sometimes other campers can be quite noisy but generally I have found my stays at this site memorable and would go there again. We have also taken our touring caravan to this site and enjoyed a five day stay with my wife and son. It was not easy to negotiate the surrounding streets in the rush hour with a caravan in tow but by some good providence managed to survive the experience and really enjoyed the holiday. The real benefit of the site is the closeness to central Paris and therefore the ease of access to the places of interest and the economy of a camp site against a hotel room.

“Good, would go again”

Standard really. Good little pitch for camping, shower blocks ok. Only gets cleaned in the morning though. The staff were brilliant. We also stayed in a chalet which was absolutely lovely but quite expensive. We would stay there again.

“Basic and underserviced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2011

We stayed in a cabin for 6, fortunately 2 were young children as the cabins are nowhere near suitable for 6. The foldout beds wouldn't go close to fitting an adult. Had major arguments to get linen, pillows and towels for 6 despite booking for 6. Most of the staff were rude and extremely unhelpful, but some were the complete opposite. 15 minutes from Paris is theoretical, in practice more like 30-45 minutes with a change to the Metro. The laundry facilities are dodgy, we paid for tokens and then found the driers were broken with no hanging facilities. There is a Laverie (launderette) at the nearby shopping area across the bridge which is a lot cheaper. They seem to have a lot but it is under staffed and poorly maintained.
