“Small everything”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

This hotel is located on a quieter side of Paris and is some distance away from the heart of the city. It is nevertheless very accessible because of the intricately efficient Paris Metro. The Nation station is just about 10 minutes of walk away on a quiet street with a few people passing by. There's a restaurant in every corner and there's also a small convenience store nearby in the direction of the Metro so the location isn't that bad at all.

The hotel is very small but well-kept so it looks warm and inviting. The small breakfast hall is right next to the lobby. There's also a small courtyard in the center. We got room number 1 which was very convenient for us since it was the first room after passing by the courtyard. There's a small lift that services the upper levels. When we got inside our room, it was small like we expected (like everything else in the hotel given that we were in Paris). There wasn't enough space to go around that it's barely comfortable for 2 people. The room had two single beds which were situated right next to each other because of the lack of space. They were, however, soft and nice and comfy. The small bathroom was spotless and had a bathtub.

The hotel also offers free wifi which is a plus. The breakfast buffet was OK but the small breakfast room could get too crowded that sometimes, we even had to wait for our turn outside at the lobby because the room couldn't accommodate all the guests staying at the hotel. The staff was very helpful and nice and always attended to our needs.

Overall, it was a pleasant experience. Though everything in the hotel is small, it's nothing that one wouldn't expect since Paris is a densely populated city.

“A great base in Paris”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Short family vacation in Paris so needed a base. Well kept but a little bit tired. It does however have character and was very much what we would have expected from a mid-level hotel (I think 4 star is a stretch but its a good 3 star). Good value for money and with a willing and helpful staff. It has all that you will need as a base from which to explore any part of Paris (incl. kitchenette). We took 2 adjoining rooms (one for the kids 12yrs & 14yrs) and tis worked well. Nothing for the kids to do (or indeed adults) but - again - this is a base! PS. Forget any advices you read encouraing you to take a bus from the airport (RER to Nations or metro to Faldherbe - Challgny)!

“Very tidy, although a small accessibility problem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

I enjoyed my stay in this hotel. Access from the street is flat, and from the courtyard there is a lift up to your rooms. However, between the reception there is a staircase and I was unable to find a way to get around it.

Rooms were very tidy. A baby bed was provided and installed when we arrived.

Room Tip: There are two buildings you can get placed in.

“Your home in Paris!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

It was a nice hotel with smiling staff. The rooms were clean enough. I stayed at a room for 4 person with 2 standard beds, one sofa and a bed hanged on the wall. It was not too big enough but satisfactory for a tourists. The breakfast was also satisfying. The croissants, mueslies, fruits were fresh all the time. 5 kinds of chesses served. I hardly ever see 5 different kinds of cheeses in a 3 star hotel. The atrium of the hotel was adorable. In addition, the location was good. I used the metro Nation which was 100 meters far from the hotel. Place de la Nation is one of the big squares of Paris. If you want to dance, Barrio Latino (one of the famous dance clubs in Paris) is on the same street with the hotel. You can walk to the hotel in late hours. The hotel is located between Bastille and Nation. Bastille is a lively place with its modern opera, bars, restos. For shopping, you can go Printemps (famous department store) in Nation. If you take care of your budget, this hotel is perfect with its quality.

“Dingy, cramped, mediocre at best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

My room (Debussy 81) was dingy, stuffy, and small. Fortunately, the windows open, so I could get some fresh air in, although you also thereby get noise in. It is not a quiet hotel. It felt shabby although it actually wasn't too bad, so I assume that was a result of bad design choices: the little desk looked like a folding table, the little kitchen unit looked like a couple of hot plates.

The staff was perfectly pleasant in my limited interactions with them.

The wifi was free. About 12 channels on the TV, with some news in English.

The breakfast was meh: scrambled eggs, some canned fruit salad, a big basket of non-memorable croissants, etc. It'll do, but you won't be writing home about it, and at least one morning you ought to treat yourself to breakfast in a cafe.

The location is fine, depending on where you want to be of course. It's near transportation, and there are plenty of restaurants, especially if you walk toward the Bastille monument.

One more thing: The hotel connects three old buildings. That'd be charming but for two things. First, the signage is inadequate; I had to write down instructions. Second, while there are elevators, there are also unavoidable stairs. If you have trouble ambulating, or if (like me) you are schlepping a big suitcase, you're going to be doing a lot of grunting before you get to your room.

Room Tip: The second building is Berlioz. The third is Debussy. You have to go through Berlioz to get to Debus...
