My boyfriend and I stayed at the Hotel Lutetia last year--a place I have always wanted to stay because the hotel exterior is so beautiful and the location is fantastic. The rates were very high and we were happy to pay until we saw our room. It was dingy, dirty, the decor looked as if it had never been updated and it looked as if the sheets were purchased in 1975 and the room was boiling hot. Upon requesting a fan about 4 times (the window did not open) we finally were given one that was broken. The staff were incredibly rude and unhelpful, to the point where you were made to feel as if they were doing you a favour if you asked to book a cab to the train station. I could not warn people enough about this hotel--I would NEVER stay there again. For the same exorbitant price, stay at the gorgeous Hotel Costes on Rue St. Honore and get real luxury for your money.

Oh my goodness, the hotel and it's staff were great! We were greeted very warmly and treated in such a gracious manner. The room was beautiful with a fantastic view. I highly recommend booking through the American Express Travel program. There are some definite perks! Beside that, the hotel is in a wonderful location on the left bank... walking distance to so many great sites. The food in the Brasserie was absolutely delicious, coupled with great and friendly service. We just found everyone to be so helpful and lovely! Plus, the buffet breakfast is tres yummy! Do not hesitate. We will definitely keep this hotel as our first choice in Paris! Susan and David Veis, Santa Monica, CA.

Hotel public areas and restaurants were wonderful. Our room was pretty but very small; decor worn, peeling wallpaper, lights clearly not well attached at ceiling, we had a lot of technical issues: everyday it was something: no air conditioning, no electricity at all, no fan, safe froze up and we could not access belongings for 2 days, toilet seat fell off after housekeeping cleaned room. When the ac did not work or the fan did not work, we had to open windows but there were no screens and lots of traffic noise. Manager was responsive and quite delightful, but for the price, we were very disappointed. Will not return.

My hubby and I took a quick break away from the kids (3 of them!) with a short, but romatic trip to the city of lights. I found the Hotel Lutetia on TripAdvisor and saw that it had good reviews and decided to take a chance. I was concerned becasue not knowing the area - i wasn't sure how far from everything it would be located. Well, we were both pleasantly surprised that it was literally WALKING distance from nearly everything in Paris. We walked to the Eiffel Tower, The Louvre, and even Champs Elysees (htough for most people this may be a bit of a walk - we LOVE to walk!) The hotel itslef was beautiful, great ambiance in the lobby and a wonderful breakfast was included each morning. The room was was comfortable, of course a bit small by US standards, but very clean and lovely. We had a nice view from our room of a park (some have Eiffel Tower views but we weren't THAT lucky!). The people at the hotel were very nice (which frankly surprised us as this was my 3rd visit to Paris and know about snooty hotel clearks/staff). We definitely want to come back to Paris, maybe even with the kids next time and hope to be able to stay at Hotel Lutetia.
