“Chic Parisien boutique hotel in an excellent location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

A lovely little hotel set amidst the yuppie district of St Germain. Nestled on a tree-lined street just tucked away from the main road, La Villa is a newish boutique hotel that encompasses Parisian chic and warmth.

The entrance/reception to the hotel is rather non-descript, and there are at least 3 other similar hotels on the same block on Rue de Jacob, but La Villa comes across as one of the newer ones. I like hotels that are understated, minimalist, spotless yet with an eye to detail. La Villa is all that. The room itself is a cosy size, with a small bathroom that has a bath-tub and a designer sink - try and figure out where the water come out from! Our room has a French window that overlooks the street - just your typical view of your typical Parisian side-street, but for the Francophiles, this oozes charm only the way Paris can.

The room itself was spotless. The only thing was that our of the 40 or so TV channels, only about 2 (BBC and CNN) were in English - but that's France!

Being a small boutique hotel, La Villa has a tiny bar next to the reception and a breakfast area in the basement. For the price of breakfast, I'd highly recommend heading to the many cafes and restaurants nearby.

The location of the hotel couldn't be better. Away from the hustle and bustle of main street Blvd St Germain, but there are a number of cosy cafes just outside the hotel (and a tea-room that sells amazing macaroons right opposite). We discovered a quaint little Parisian restaurant that does amazing food (du Pied de Fouet) just round the corner. A couple of minutes walk from the hotel and you get to the heart of St Germain des Pres, with many bars, restaurants and cafes with al fresco dining set up just for people watching.

I forgot just how walkable Paris is. It's easier to wander around on foot than to battle the maze of the metro. A 20 minute walk will get you to the Latin Quarter, where plenty of cafes and restaurants abound for which are considerably less expensive than St Germain.

All in all, I loved this little gem of a hotel, and will most definitely stay in it again.

“Excellent Location and Stylish Decor”

Stayed for three nights over new year. On arrival we were told there were problems with the rooftop room we had booked and we were therefore upgraded to a junior suite. Suite was lovely - seperate sleeping area and sitting area, quite modern. On the 5th floor and was really quiet at night despite being so central. Only minor negatives I have with the room were that the small bottles of mineral water by the bed which were there on arrival were never replaced (for the cost of the room would really have expected that) and the over-bath shower in the bathroom was a bit dated and not that powerful and the bath quite high and difficult to climb in and out of.

We didn't eat breakfast in the hotel so can't comment on that. Did have drinks in the bar on a couple of evenings. Once service was excellent and the next night think we may have been served by someone who wasn't used to working behind the bar as he wasn't sure what gins they stocked and served it with no ice and no lime/lemon. Other than that staff in the hotel were all friendly and helpful despite our very rusty french!

Would definitely recommend this hotel. Location was perfect for us - near metro but also walkable to most sights. Lots of nice bars, restaurants, cafes and shops roundabout but street was still nice and quiet at night

“Right in the heart of Saint Germain des Pres”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

The hotel is very conveniently located between the Saint-Germain-des-Pres abbey and the Laduree patisserie shop, spot in the heart of the famous 5me arr neighborhood and walking distance from the lively Quartier Latin. The superior room is reasonably large (for parisian standards) and furnished with a comfortable queen size bed. The very clean bathroom was the part we liked the least though: the washbowl was almost impossible to use given the extremely minimalist design and the narrow shaped bath tub made it pretty uncomfortable to have a decent shower. Reasonably priced if compared to its peers in the same area, it is a good choice especially if you can get a special deal.

Room Tip: Get at least a superior room and ask for a room with a shower instead of the bath tub

“Tres chic”

An élégant boutique hôtel just down the street from Deux Magots and Flore and a lot of other great shops and bistros. One of the few in the area that (at this writing) is completely air conditioned, which can be important in Paris in August. We also loved that the room had enough shelf and closet space for all our stuff, as this was our last stop before heading home and we needed to get organized and repacked. Very nice decor with a really, spectacular glass-enclosed shower, and sufficient plugs to recharge everything. Breakfast buffet wasn't worth the price (22 E per person which, at the height of the European economic crisis, came to about $35 US each), but it was possible to order a simple breakfast in the room for considerably less. Our only real complaint was the hotel's driver who fleeced us on our trip to the airport, but the hotel has offered to reimburse us for the carfare, and said they were terminating the driver. You can't ask for much more than a hotel that gets most things right and tries to make good if something goes wrong. We liked it and would stay there again.

Room Tip: We asked for a "superior room" and were glad we did. The standard rooms are much smaller...

“Excellent location and hotell, very indifferent service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

The location really couldn't be better! Across the street from Laduree, just by the metro and a short, gorgeous stroll to the Louvre and other attractions.
The room was very nice, superior meant spacious (by Parisian means) and everything was clean and in working order. The sink was more form than function and the tube tiny in the nice bathroom though. The room was almost eerily quiet at night and I slept better than I have in years!
The only drawback apart from the price was the staff. Indifferent, bordering on rude.
I'll gladly stay in the area next time, but if I can get a similiar deal at Bel Ami, I'd rather stay there and be spoiled by the wonderful staff!
