Great boutique feel to the hotel, friendly staff and lovely deco. Great location!!
This review is actually difficult to write as I so much wanted to love La Belle Juliette and give this gorgeous little boutique hotel the 5/5 most others here feel it deserves. This sentiment is no doubt helped by the fact that the very friendly front-desk staff gave us an upgrade upon learning that this was our honeymoon. We were overjoyed as you can imagine!
While I'm on the positives - the hotel, it's well sized public lounge areas and our junior suite are all beautifully decorated in a tasteful mix of modern & period pieces of furniture. Each floor is dedicated to one of the places 'Juliette' enjoyed traveling to with ours done in an Italian theme. The front desk informed us the hotel was only a year old and you can tell - everything is clean and unworn. Our room was small by standard suite standards but largish by Parisian ones with a small sitting room, a bedroom and a bathroom with a very nice bath and shower head (unusual for Europe) and separate toilet. We had not one but two iMacs which act as both a computer and TV - we didn't use either as we had all of Paris to explore but made liberal use of the free wifi. The room had no mini bar but the complimentary bottle of still and sparkling each day was welcome and I spotted a coffee machine with capsules that remained untouched but a nice idea.
I've referred several time to the front desk staff - these guys were good!! Very helpful, warm and friendly at all times and if they were all we were rating the hotel on I would be giving it ten out of five. No task was too daunting and a highlight was when they discovered a restaurant we had wanted to visit was shut down. They tirelessly tracked the chef to a new venue - investigated and discovered the food was of the same style as the old one and took the liberty of booking us a table. I love that kind of proactivity!
The location of the hotel was a major positive for me but I realize not all people may not be my way inclined. It is on an adorable Parisian street with many little shops, bistros, etc but feels more local than touristy. It is a short walk from any of the main sights but I feel St Germain-de-pres is a sight in itself to be honest. My best discovery was Le Bon Marche just around the corner - we made liberal use of both the gourmet supermarket (mmmm cheese, ham and crusty bread galore!) and the oh so Parisienne department store.
Now onto the negatives. The breakfast which is not included leaves a lot to be desired. I could get past the lack of buffet and rather limited menu if there weren't so many mistakes but we gave up after three tries and purchased our own breakfast at the local boulangerie to eat in our room on the fourth day. The service was strikingly unfriendly when contrasted with that of the front desk. On the first morning the coffee was ice cold, the bread basket that was ordered never arrived, and more concerning was the number of other guests we heard complaining loudly about their experience. The second morning I ordered the plate of Italian meats and cheeses which arrived sans cheese. When I pointed it out one waiter informed me it didn't come with cheese while the other said it did and proceeded to inform me the chef was asleep so they couldn't confirm what went on the dish. Other experiences included orange juice running out (there was a supermarket and fruit shop virtually next door!), a dish arriving with two kinds of cheese one day and only one the next, coffee without milk when milk wad requested and so on.
Inside the hotel bedroom I'm sorry to say the mattresses were much too soft - if you have a bad back I would recommend you avoid. The bedcovers were sheets with wool blankets (unfortunately wool makes me itch) and the wardrobe posed a problem with the doors not having enough room to open due to a lack of space. Lighting which I see is attempting to be atmospheric is a problem - specifically the lack thereof.
And I know it's the thought that counts but when we arrived in our suite, overjoyed at our recent upgrade we were made even happier by the rose petals scattered on our beds only to be somewhat disappointed by a note offering us 'this' bottle of champagne with their compliments but no actual champagne to be found!
In hindsight I think that with this hotel ranked 6 out of 1500+ on Trip Advisor our expectations were high and were probably judging more harshly than we might have done but when balancing the room cost with the TA rating and our other Paris and Western Europe hotel experiences I think this is still a fair review.
We stayed at La Belle Juliette for 8 nights recently. We had a wonderful stay, especially being our first time in Paris.
This hotel is situated in what appears to be a very nice & affluent area of Paris. Lots of great cafes, restaurants & patisseries close by & conveniently located near 3 metro stations. There's also a wonderful department store (Bon Marche) near the hotel that would rival the busy touristy Galeries Lafayette.
Although the rooms are small, the hotel is very charming. We stayed in a superior room & it was very comfortable. The bathrooms are beautifully presented, though the lighting is a little dark for make-up application! I found the cleanliness outstanding. The staff are also very attentive & always helpful. They definitely were a standout to us.
We loved our time here & we definitely recommend it.
The hotel is well-situated on a lovely street, with great local shops, bistros and patisseries. Our room was slightly on the small side but very pretty, with everything we needed and more. The staff were very helpful and accommodating, and we enjoyed a glass of champagne in their stunning lounge area. Would definitely recommend, though it is very girly!
I must have browsed every single hotel in paris in the same price range. The moment I saw the photos on the internet I knew it was a very special hotel. But when I actually arrived I was amazed! It is the perfect little hotel in Paris! The location ideal, not a touristic area. The decoration and the colours are exceptional! The rooms romantic and cozy. Beds and pillows can guarantee excelent sleep! Very friendly staff, spotless cleanliness! I don't regret choosing it, besides the fact it was a bit more expensive comparing to other 4star hotels. Breakfast isn't free though.... that is something perhaps they should change. It costs 20e (the continental one) and is consisted of filter coffee(or tea or chocolate) fresh juice, croissants, breads and jam. Given the fact that you can buy a large gourmet sandwich with 4e and a cappuccino with 3,5e in any boulangerie found in every single corner of paris, you can guess why we only had breakfast once in the hotel. Nevertheless: this is Paris! In most places everything is overpriced.
Overall experience: I loved both paris and La belle Juliette! Noone can possibly regret staying there!
Hope someday I can stay there again!! <3
