The decor is beautifully well maintained, clean and unique. The lady who runs it is sweet but strict and has a lot of pride in the place - careful you don't wheel your luggage over the stairs! Rooms are small but heated and bathroom is adequate.
Breakfast is minimal (earl grey tea and a croissant) and delivered to your room by 9am in the morning (she calls to tell you she's coming if you haven't woken up!).
Our only real complaint though is that you can't leave your bags there on a Sunday - we were told to take them to Gare du Nord which was out of our way, and meant we had to pay to get there and store them. Seems strange not to offer this for a hotel which must mainly service weekend guests.

Friendly staff, clean rooms, good location but basic facilities - we had the attic room and could only squat in the bath! Breakfast served to the room was simple coffee and croissant but an OK start as you'll be wanting to eat out anyway.

Located about 15 min walk from Gare du Nord (Eurostar station) but MANY steps up to the hotel. Suggest getting the metro to Lamarck station only 5 mins walk from there. Hotel is close to the artist quarter of Montmartre with a good selection of eateries as well as the artists and street entertainers.

Trip suggestion - take the bike tour organised through Viator.com or Fat Tire Bike Tours. We did the night tour, starts around 7 and finishes at 11ish. Excellent value and very different seeing far more than on a bus or walking. They also do a day tour which others on our night tour had done and gave glowing reports of that too.

The elder proprietress of the Hermitage could not have been more charming on the phone. Sweeter than a millefouille with extra syrup. Was there a twin room? No, but you can have a camp bed on the floor, it will be no problem whatsoever, she replied in sing-song French. Did they have a garage for our bikes? Oh yes, we have a garage. And the price? 85 euros. Wonderful. I put down the phone feeling joyful.

Sure enough, we put the bikes in the garage on arrival, and following a request, the camp bed was installed. At this point they announced they wanted to charge an extra 21 euros (6 for the bikes and 15 for the bed). When we got the bill it was 120 euros, because somehow the basic room price had inflated to 99 euros. Such a horrible way to treat guests. She took off the 15 euros, but made out she was cutting her own arm off to do so.

Hotel itself is beautifully appointed, and has amazing views over Paris. It has no lounges or dining room.

Just back from what is now our regular hotel in Paris. Over the years we have stayed here a number of times to enjoy the unchanging merits so well summed up by others: immaculately clean, utterly traditional fixtures and fittings and inflexible charming hosts with the driest sense of humour in France. Its popularity is sometimes a problem for booking but I would hate to miss the familiar walk "home" up to that freshly painted front door at number 24. The gentle affection in which the place is held by so many is entirely justified. The convenient off street garage is an unsung plus if you are driving there.
