Lets start with: This place was not that busy so it is not as if the service was bad because they were busy. When you can manage to catch the eye of one of the waitresses, they dole out the "you're interrupting me" looks.
Cocktails were as insipid as the service.
Only by wearing a chicken suit and flapping around would one draw anyone's attention to ask for the bill and even when one has done that the staff resume their conversations and don't act on the request.
After finally having enough and preparing to leave we get slammed with petulance and rudeness.
Should have heeded the Luxe Guides warning. Don't go!
You have to be the right kindof person to enjoy this superb hotel, because it is all about elegance and attitude, not pampering or seeing and being seen. Heck, it's too dark. Everywhere. but that's the charm, romance, and mystique of the place. It's like an updated version of a 30's noir film, and the cast, yourself/myself are possibly the only ones not rated "10" or even higher. We're not shabby, mind you, just pig farmers from the mid-west who dress in Madison Avenue (NYC) duds, possess designer accessories, shoes, and jewelry, and travel with Italian Desginer luggage. And enjoying one of the most marvelous lunches we've ever had, just-perfect sized portions of ethereal dishes, we did not feel like midwestern hicks fresh off the farm, we just were when compared to the elegant Dukes and Duchesses, models and movie stars who populated the Courtyard. We felt priveleged to be there, and went back for an equally stunning and delicious dinner a few night later. Although we had to negotiate with the hostess, who properly rejected us as unworthy tourists, very artfully and tastefully done I must add, until we reminded her we were guests in the hotel. Was that the famous French movie star over there at the center table? No, because the young woman we saw looked like the star did 30 years ago! and the men are all terribly handsome, and thin, and wear their jackets draped on their shoulders and they don't slip off. Just like in the movies. Our room was dark, absent of electric light, as was the separate W.C., and the bath was not much better. But typical 5-star bed linens and treatments, and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute in that room, awake or asleep. Our business did not place demands on wireless services or tweets, and we had no need to call on special staff services, or time to enjoy the spa. Seriously, the rooms are dark but you can get along just fine. You're in a hit movie, you're in love, you're in Paris, you're on the Rue St.Honore. You can spend more money at other hotels, have bigger, brighter rooms, be fawned on more, but will you get the sense of place and romance you get here? Been there, done that, my opinion, NO! Also, my poor French passes here, so I cannot comment on how you're treated if you don't speak French. But we'll be back, and recommend you go as well. Just respect the enviornment that's been created here, and enjoy your time in the spotlight.
I have to say I love this place. Various contributors have noted the "snooty" staff, but so long as you remember that's what they are, ie staff, and treat them accordingly, it will be fine. Never allow upstart staff to spoil a night out! Fantastic venue, and great vibe. A place to enjoy was in Paris.
I got lost trying to find particular restaurant , and ended up at The Costes Hotel , the restaurant is in casual courtyard setting and low key, I ordered the Duck with asian sauce and baby spinach , and it was excellent, I found the staff were all respectful and nice . I had no problems there , and Yes some of the people who there, are a tad pretentious , but I am quite often too busy enjoying myself to notice ! I Had a lovely day at The Costes!
