“convenient location, a bit pricey for what it is”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 March 2011

I stayed there with a friend (both college students) for a weekend recently. The hotel is close to the Gare de Lyon, which was convenient for us since we had late night/early morning transport in/out of the city. We paid 180 for two nights for the two of us, which isn't really a bargain but considering that we booked it last minute it was fine. The room itself and the bed were small, but everything looked reasonably clean and worked fine. The hotel staff were nice, nothing remarkable, letting us print out our boarding pass, giving us metro info, etc. In essence, the hotel is convenient for its location, but if you're looking for a great deal look elsewhere.

Room Tip: They don't take US credit cards (cash only)

“shouldn't be a three star”

We stayed here for one night in Paris since it was close to the train station, and we wanted one room for two adults and two kids. We were coming from Provence and had one night in Paris before flying back to states the next day.
I just looked at the hotel photos again, and it showed our room. It sure looks better in the photos than in person. Super tiny; could hardly get around double bed. On top floor, so two skylights, but no windows to open or look out of. Very hot, and couldn't figure out AC. When we asked at front desk, man came up to turn it on with a remote that he took back with him. Bathroom newer, but shower so tiny that cloth shower curtain is always sticking to your body which is most unpleasant. (especially considering all the other people it has stuck to.) Baseboard pulled off in corner showing wires. Dirty, dingy carpet.
We had spent a week earlier in the trip in a gorgeous two bedroom apt. in Invalides neighborhood, so we were bound to be disappointed in anything else, but I did think a three star hotel would be nicer. Neighborhood a little dicey, but to be expected so close to the train station. I definitely wouldn't recommend staying here during a longer stay.

“Terrible experience”

We had terrible experience at this hotel and ended up changing the hotel the second day of our stay. We stayed there one night and my confirmation said that if I cancelled or modify my reservation I had to pay one night. The receptionist told us to pay for three nights!!! Fortunately, the booking agent told her that we should pay for one more night. Τhe receptionist took the money and she started been racist and insulting to us and our country!!!!!!!!
I have never seen a so rude, horrible and completely unprofessional person. The funny thing was that at our arrival we found the door locked with a note: “je reviens”!!! Bel Oranger Gare de Lyon was a horrible and overpriced hotel. The room was very small, so small that we couldn’t even lay the bags open! Actually, everything was small: room, elevators and hallways. The smell in the hotel was awful and we had to walk around with our hand over our mouth all the time. I travel a lot but this was by far the worst hotel I have ever been in, even motels in the united states are better than this hotel. The pictures on the website are not at all representative. I didn’t like anything there. Stay away from this hotel if you want to enjoy Paris. There are so many good hotels in Paris if you add 10-20€.

“Close to Train Station, Shady billing, poor sleep quality”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2010

The free wifi, closeness to Gare De Lyon, and hot water were the few positives on this trip.

However, the rooms almost all face the street which amplifies all the noise. From rolling suitcases to cars, it was hard to get a decent sleep with the windows closed. Also, all the rooms are stacked next to each other so you hear everything from surrounding rooms.

When you book this hotel, they will automatically put a hold on your credit card on the night of arrival for the first night's room and tax. So, under no circumstances put your debit card or bank card because you will not have access to this money. They state it's just to ensure a valid credit card was given so they could charge for no shows. Unacceptable business practices.

The three stars this hotel has is inflated. Remember that to get these they only need to have certain amenities and the stars do not reflect accurately the true quality of the hotel and its staff. There are other hotels around the corner is also 3 stars and of much better quality...plus they have a brand standard to adhere to.

One key given per room that you have to turn in whenever you leave (much like a youth hostel), locked doors at night where you have to summon the desk clerk who is often times not at the desk, and the obligatory shower amenities (to get the 3rd star) that are embarrassingly cheap.

If you are looking for a cheap place to stay, find another. If you think this is a good 3 star property, try again. There's a reason it's ranked so low on Tripadvisor. Stay away! Either save money and downgrade to a true 2 star hotel or look for a better 3-4 star and spend a few extra dollars a night.

At best, this is a 2 star hotel that polished a few rooms, installed air conditioners, and is charging 40-50 euros more a night for a product that is not worthy of such prices, yes, even for Paris.

“Not the best or the worst”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2009

The staff at the desk, Habib, was terrific, very helpful. The hotel had free wi-fi, a real plus for me. they were able to accomadate our requests for a room for 4 and a room for 3. This was unusal in our recent experience in Europe.
The rooms and bathrooms were clean and fairly comfortable, there was a lingering smell of family cooking odors, and the rooms weren't arranged well and the furniture was very random and cheap. Clean towels and enough hot water were very nice. There were no eating facilities on site, but there were plentiful eating spots outside the hotel, easily accessible.
The location, within a 2 minute walk of Gare Du Lyon station was a plus.
