We travelled to Clos Des Fontaines for 4 nights with the main purpose to explore Fontainebleau and the surrounding area. We couldn't find any hotels or bed and breakfasts of a decent standard in Fontainebleau itself, therefore we searched the surrounding area and found Clos Des Fontaines.
The bed and breakfast is located in a tiny village between Paris and Fontainebleau. We travelled in a party of 6 and therefore managed to view 3 of the rooms. All were of excellent decor, were extremely clean and spacious. There is a swimming pool which can be used at certain times of the day, however we never had the opportunity as we were out for most of the day. We were told by the owner that the property was once owned by Yannick Noah, the famous French tennis player.
The owner, Genevieve, is an excellent host and provides all the home baked foods for breakfast. I've never before seen such a vast selection of home made jams on offer....all were fantastic and were the main cause for a few extra holiday lbs. Breakfast was served outside in the garden or inside the dining area. The garden is pretty big and certainly looking after it must be a full time job, and is big enough to provide a stroll to work off the breakfast. The dog, Prunelle, is very welcoming, friendly and likes to chase ball...and pizza we found out...
The Bed and breakfast is approximately 20 - 30 minutes drive to Fontainebleau and the surrounding area is ideal for walks around the village and surrounding forest. A train station is located about 10 minutes drive from the b&b, we used this to travel to Paris on one of the days.
We will definately return to this bed and breakfast in the future if we are ever in the area again as it was definately value for money and provided an excellent setting for a relaxing holiday.
